1. Light
Wordcount: 92
Warnings: None
Light enveloped her and filled her. Flowed through her, beckoning her to use it, though she didn’t know how yet. The Sister who had brought her to the Palace of the Prophets, had told her that this would eventually happen, but words could never have fully described this rapture. Her eyes, glazed with magic, saw the world for the first time. Really saw it, every nuance of every color. Every detail of every flower... straw... leaf. Everything was filled with light and life. Verna had touched her Han for the first time.
2. Dark
Wordcount: 105
Warnings: None
I stumbled. Again. Cursing in the dark, I heard Richard chuckle somewhere to my left.
“This isn’t funny!” I said through clenched teeth.
“Of course not,” he said good-naturedly.
Gritting my teeth, I kept walking. “Next time you want to go for a moonlit walk, bring Zedd or Cara. Or make sure the moon stays put till the walk is over,” I grumbled. Suddenly a hand caught my arm, turning me around, and another hand came up to cup my face.
“The magic of a moonlit walk is to share it with someone you love,” Richard said, then kissed me. I suppose that was true.
3. Water
Wordcount: 108
Warnings: None
Cara was used to the warm luxurious baths of the temples. While she didn’t exactly mind bathing in the cold water of streams, rivers and lakes, she did sometimes wish the water would be slightly less cool. So whenever it happened that they stopped at an inn instead of spending another night outdoors, she would disappear for hours. Not to her room with something sweet to distract and please her, as might have been suspected. No, she spent those hours savoring the feel of the hot-drawn bath the inns could offer. To her, those hours were as powerful a magic as anything the wizard could come up with.
4. Sun
Wordcount: 108
Warnings: Small spoiler for S01E13, "Revenant"
They hadn’t seen the sun for days. Ever since Zedd cast the obscuring spell to hide the tracer cloud from Darken Rahl and his men, the sun had been gone too. In a way, it was a relief when Zedd must have gotten far enough away on his path to hide the Box of Orden, for the magic to go away too. The sun finally revealed itself again, warm and comforting as ever. No-one could blame them for taking a small break to just sit down and enjoy the moment with each other. It wasn’t often that the Seeker and the Mother Confessor were that selfish, after all.
5. Fight
Wordcount: 104
Warnings: Spoiler for S02E04, "Touched"
I looked into his eyes, usually so full of love and affection. Now they were cold, all his love for me and everything that made him Richard consumed by Annabelle’s Confessor magic. I knew he would kill me without a second thought if it would keep his mistress safe. I weighed my options. Fight him to try and get to Annabelle, risking one of us dying? Or wait till I could get the help I needed? Once decided, I knew I hadn’t really had a choice. I could never harm Richard. So I dropped my dagger, the fight over before it truly had begun.
6. Alone
Wordcount: 107
Warnings: Small spoiler for S02E19, "Extinction"
Fragile. Yearning for her kin. Her loved ones who all perished in the fire, banished to the Underworld by Darken Rahl. Oh, how she longs for them, - their company. Yet, there is one reason to hold on, one thing that gives her enough strength to fight to remain on this side of the veil, separated from those she loves. She is with young and they are the magic the world needs to not perish like her kin did. Her kin... sadness fills her anew. She is so alone. So, so alone. A fading light, a whisper on the wind. The last night wisp in the world.
7. Hurt
Wordcount: 102
Warnings: None
“Sit still,” Zedd admonished as Cara tried to wriggle out of his grasp.
“There’s no need for this, Wizard. I’ll be fine,” she drawled in response, rolling her eyes for good measure. He was not impressed.
“Don’t be foolish, Cara. You only got hurt because you placed yourself between me and that crossbow. Mending the damage is the least I can do in return!”
“I’ve had worse.”
Yet, Cara sullenly resigned to his administrations. As his healing magic washed through her, she could feel the tissue knit back together to form a scar, only faintly visible by the time Zedd was done.
8. Promise
Wordcount: 102
Warnings: Spoiler for S02E14, "Bound"
Kahlan stopped me as I moved to follow Nicci.
“Whatever happens, do not let her get the stone!” Her eyes were intent.
“I won’t let anything happen to you,” I said, trying to convey all my passion and love for her in that promise.
“Then you’d best not let anything happen to her!” Zedd gestured in the direction Nicci had headed. All I could think of as I hurried to catch up with her, was how I could never let anything happen to Kahlan. I silently vowed to keep Nicci - and Kahlan - safe, until Zedd found a way to break the spell.
9. Lost
Wordcount: 110
Warnings: None
She had found the pup scared half to death and hiding under a log deep within the forest. It had taken the threat of an Agiel to his bum for the Wizard to begrudgingly give her some meat from her hunt, to feed the poor beast with. Soon, the pup was snuggled beside her, his head resting on her lap. Upon their arrival, Richard and Kahlan did little to hide their amusement.
“I swear she must be under some sort of spell,” the Wizard grumbled good-naturedly.
“He was lost and distressed!” Cara defended herself. “Helping distressed humans and animals is what we do!” Her glare dared them to say otherwise.
10. Passion
Wordcount: 93
Warnings: None
His lust for power consumed him. It was his passion; he couldn’t remember a time when his ambitions hadn’t been the motive for every action he made. He used every resource available to him, and yet he couldn’t seem to achieve what he dreamed of. He had wealth, armies, magic… but it was never enough. So he started to hunger for another, more powerful type of magic; the legendary Boxes of Orden. They would grant him absolute authority. With those in his possession, he would be the undisputed Master of the Three Territories.
