Thoughts on the SGA 5x01-5x03

The last season of SGA is slowly moving to it's end(well, we're in the second half of the season) and there's some thoughts I just need to get out.

 Search and Rescue:
Loved it! There was snark, team and whump! And unexpected!Ford as well as Shep asking if the 'rescuers' prefere Duff Beer or Oprah Ale! Oh Sheppard, you're just awesomeness sometimes! Especially when paired up with Ronon. Loved the 'go out shooting'-remark. However, I was a bit unsure of what to make of the start of the episode, what with the candle lit dinner with Teyla... Either way, there was lots of team-love.

On the other hand, seriously, what the hell was Keller thinking in letting Sheppard go on that crazy rescue mission? I'm more than sure that there's someone else who could have done what he did. Besides, being as injured as Sheppard was, he was more of a liability than anything else, no matter how flashy his flyboy powers are. Also, Keller, you're not making such a professional impression if you let someone who should be in surgery go off on a crazy mission like that. If nothing else you should have just sedated him or had him in restrains to prevent him from leaving. You are after all the CMO, and as such your work is final in situations like that....

The Seed:
While I do like the idea of finding out how the hive ships come to be, there was something lacking in the episode. I think that the main breaking point for me was Keller waking up with strange goop on her hand and then not thinking twice about it. Honestly, stranger things have happened in the Pegasus galexy, and you don't think waking up with goop is one of the stranger ones that needs mentioning? We didn't get to see any other reaction that 'wtf' which was followed by washing of hands and going to bed - never bringing it up to anyone. Keller, you've seen the freaky shit that happens, why on earth wouldn't you take at least a dozen tests to find out what that magic goop is? Logic, you can has it?

In general, The Seed was an okay ep. I've seen better and I've seen worse. While I did like the idea of some sort of Wraith pathogen taking over Keller and slowly turning into a hive ship, I can't help but to wonder why no one else was affected. The odds of someone else also having some sort of symtom is likely since it seemed like there were lots of people who had been infected with the same pathogen. At the least they could have come up with 'oh, she already had a cold and her immune system was therefore shot to hell to begin with and that's why the pathogen could take over her body'. Would it have been so hard to just add just the slightest touch of logic there? Bah humbug!

As for the characters, I loved how McKay talked to popcicle!Beckett. It was a great way to tie back to how big of an impact Beckett's initial death by exploding tumour (still wtf?-ing over that) had on McKay. I also liked how Woolsey was introduced to the team and Atlantis in general. It did feel like a very Woolsey-esque entrance. What's more is that I really liked his little talk with Sheppard in the end, and how he realises that it's not that easy to always follow the rules, and his mention that the rules "are there for a reason".

Broken Ties:
First scene with Ronon and Teyla talking and bonding, awesomenss! Ronon having stunned someone at his own surprise birthday party? Brilliant! :D Also liked the fact that it took three blasts from the stungun to bring down Ronon. It also shows us that he's still got those Runner habits after all these years, which only makes sense.
Though the scene with everyone leaving after their meeting and Woolsey unable to open the doors, as fun as it was, I do feel more than a bit sad for him.

Moving on, we find that Tyre's brought Ronon to a place which holds some memories for them both. What I liked with Tyre's behaviour is that it kinda made sense, as did his irratic behaviour and reasoning. However, I am still unsure if I like how  in the end the Wraith managed to break Ronon. While I would have loved for Ronon to be that unbreakable, I do understand that there'd be a limit to how much he could take. I don't have to like it, but I understand it. Just as it also means that he was strong enough to endure such torture, because that is one hell of a torture.

I liked the idea of a redeaming Tyre, who finally tries to do the honourable thing by helping rescue Ronon, but only after having done through one hell of a withdrawl. In the mean while, I also liked that Teyla's issues with being both a mother and a part of Sheppards team wasn't taken easily, that she had a long think about it since it was not to be taken lightly.

Oh Ronon, you poor thing. How hard it must have been for those who know and love you to see you in such a state, as a Wraith Worshipper. What's worse is that scene when he was going through withdrawl (belly peek!), to see him in agony, writhing in pain and frustration.
