Mini review: The Shack

When I hear things like “This book will change the way you think about God forever” and “This book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress did for his” I am naturally sceptical.  Possibly because I think the only book that can honestly change the way you think about God is the Bible.  So I approached William ( Read more... )

Sadly, the more something is extolled these days, the more shallow and manqué it actually turns out to be.

Everything's about buzzwords and a hook and marketing now. The writing is an afterthought.

I read The Shack last year and was not impressed. I didn't enjoy it on any level: the writing, the story, the theology. When it comes to reading I'm typically pretty easy to please, but this one missed the mark for me. It was one of those books when I finished left me wondering what all the hype was about.
