My goodness, where does the time go?
Thanksgiving came and went and now it's only 2 weeks until Christmas.
Wow.
Thanksgiving was pretty awesome though, if I do say so myself. We got there at like 1 in the morning. The kidlets had been sleeping almost the whole way, so they were full of energy upon waking. My mom and I did the turkey. She thawed it. (well tried to thaw it- apparently a 20 lb turkey needs more than 3 days to thaw in a refrigerator) And she made the brine, and took out all the giblets and neck. It soaked all night and I stuffed if full of onions and lemons and herbs and spices, rubbed it down with butter and olive oil and cooked and (sort of ) basted it. I really should have wrapped the wings in foil, but I didn't even hear about doing that til I watched the Oprah show about it AFTER we got back. I guess there's always Christmas... Anyway, it was quite the feast, with the turkey, gravy, yams, green bean casserole, jello sallad, Grandma Luthy's rolls (HEAVEN!!!) and oh yes, the potoatoes. Poor Britt peeled and chopped all 10 pounds of potatoes at her house, and we didn't get them cooking until almost 5:00, so with that and the turkey still being partially frozen that morning, we actually had a DINNER, not lunch. Oh, and then of course, all the deserts. Ten of them, to be exact. Pumpkin pie cake, cherry pie, apple pie, black bottom pie, pecan pie, french silk pie, blueberry cheesecake, and sticky toffee pudding cake. All of it was so. good.
There were some mishaps - like Jaimie getting her hand slammed in Brittanie's car door, and getting a pretty nasty wound to her left middle finger. I'm pretty sure she's lost or will lose the nail on it. And Alex falling down the stairs a couple times. But all in all, it was very enjoyable, with no major blowups (you have no idea what a feat that is for my family!) We made a tape for Jason (who's on his mission in Italy). It was hilarious. Instead of stopping it when we were deciding what to do and semi aruguing/ joking, mumsy dearest left it on. He got several renditions of hymns, a Pirates of Penzance, and Armies of Helaman from David. And Cameron doing Danny Boy (which was great until that last very HIGH note. hehehehe) Jeff Dunham's Achmed the Dead Terrorist. Don't know if Jason has seen that, but if he did, it will be fun to listen to. I really should get my mom to get Vonage, so she can call Italy for free at Christmas.
Anway, lots of fun to be had. I still can't quite believe we've been home for 2 weeks already.
David is still liking school. Sometimes, it's a challenge getting him to get ready to go, but once he's there, he likes it. Dang. I knew he had something Saturday. (His friend invited him to go to a kid's part for his dad's union on Saturday, but we've got a Primary Program rehearsal. He's pretty good on his lines though, and knows most of the songs. Maybe I'll let him miss this one... Does that make me an irresponsible parent?)
Let's see, in other news... I am starting a new business - making custom wedding invitations, birth announcements, photo editing, etc. I quite liked doing Dan and Danielle's engagement picture collage and Sean and Jordan's invitations, and figure I could probably get a few customers if I make them reasonably priced. Enough to at least start getting some things paid off. I have actually bought a website
www.memoriesbymel.com, but I'm still working on it, so there's just the parked page stuff there right now. The logo is being kind of difficult for me. Maybe I'll post what I'm debating on and get ideas/ comments from everyone else. We shall see.
Okay, I probably ought to get the kids dressed and presents wrapped and Christmas pacakage ready to send. Hopefully I'll get around to writing again before Christmas actually gets here. HA!
