You should watch the movie who killed the Electric Car, or read the book The Long Emergancy, I Think you would enjoy them.

It will make you hate the Goverment a little though.

so, u turn ur car off if ur at a stop light? i always thought the starting up of the engine produces a larger amount of fumes/exhaust as well as causes undo wear and tear on your car's components..

so just curious if turning ur car off really is doing any good? unless ur idoling in the parking lot waiting for someone to come out of the store, i can see that.. but wait, we dont wait in the parking lots anymore, we simply park our lazy asses in the firelane/no parking area..

we were at la fuente a few weeks back.. a guy left his suv parked, running, in the fire lane.. while he came in and ate dinner.. he was there when we got there and was still there when we left.. that, sir, is called parking, not a quick stop over..

whatever.. some people.. sorry.. went off topic w my rant.. sorta.. heehee.

but yeah.. anything we can do does help... share more of your new smarts w us!

oh and.. people who go to one strip mall (say, arborland) and drive from store to store instead of parking in the middle and, waht do they call it? oh yeah.. WALKING from store to store.. do u realllllly need to drive from store to store? some people apparently do..

after being in italy a few years back i realized how much we dont really need to drive as many places as we do.. until i came back here and realized our towns are not compact enuff like european towns.. where you can walk and get everything you need.. but here, we have to drive 20 miles just to go to whole foods to get overpriced organic food so we can feel like we're being good global citizens.

but i digress and babble again...

So yeah...I used to think the same thing about turning off the car but according to the NPR program I listened to(if it's on NPR it MUST be true, right??) turning the car off and on doesn't release more carbon into the atmosphere and doesn't waste gas or cause additional wear and tear on your engine. Who knew? Still though I have to admit that I don't do it at every stop light. I do switch off at the lights I know to be super long though, like at Carpenter and Washtenaw; and I do switch off if I'm waiting in line at the gas station or bank or in a parking lot, etc.

See...it's people like the La Fuente guy that I would have wanted to confront, in as poilte a manner as possible. Seriously...WTF does he think he's doing and WHY would he need to leave his car running like that?!?! How ignorant and just plain annoying!! How's that for polite confrontation? hehehe
