Lort Smith Shelter banned from rehoming animals just before Christmas
'VICTORIA'S largest animal hospital has been banned from finding new homes for cats and dogs lost in the City of Melbourne, as local pounds brace for a sharp increase in the number of pets dumped over Christmas.'
Despite having rehomed stray and abandoned animals for 75 years, Lort Smith has just now been found by the City of Melbourne to have breached its licence.

It looks like people are already moving on this, bless them. Here is some info from a forum; PLEASE - download this, take it to work, get your workmates to sign it, get your family, friends, people on the street. Aside from taking in strays, Lort Smith also treat and re-home animal victims of domestic violence, and do a lot of awareness work about animals and domestic violence (many violent people will start hurting the family pets before they progress to family members...). They do such an incredible job, and to take them out of the picture, right before kitten/puppy season/Christmas, *and* the peak domestic violence period, is just cruelty.
