Or maybe just a little more diverse than that. So I'd like to introduce to you all to one my new favorite bands, the Passion Pit. I saw this Cambridge group opening at the BU GirlTalk Concert and was blown away by their overwhelming sound that just infects with joy. As soon as I got back from the concert, I immediately downloaded their album Chunk ( Read more... )

Lolz, politics. ntkufreak October 8 2008, 22:46:03 UTC
Aside from that I didn't want another term or two of Republicans, I would have been much happier with John McCain than any of the other GOPs. He was not religiously tied to the party and HAS been a maverick in many instances. He showed that he was willing to ignore bipartisonship to get things done in the past. You cannot help but respect his time in the military, certainly a HELL of a lot more admirable than Bush's ( ... )

The problem with the ad on teaching sex ed to kindergartners was that it was actually true, he did vote for comprehensive sex ed, and though the measure didn't pass, that isn't really the question of the moment. Obama later 'moved to clarify' that he was against explicit sex education, but to quote the article in question, ""But it’s the right thing to do," Obama continued, "to provide age-appropriate sex education, science-based sex education in schools."" I still disagree: the sex-ed attack ad was a blatant exaggeration to the point of being falsehood.

Politifact dissected the claim twice, in two different contexts. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2008/sep/11/kindergarten-sex-ed-hardly/

You are free to disagree, of course, but the article does remind me that Barack's record on education is rather slender. I'm willing to concede that he wasn't a co-sponsor of the bill, and that he might have party-line voted instead of voting his conscience. However, even the full text of the quote about his 'accomplishment' lists a board- unnamed- for overseeing early childhood development... and doing research, announcing a federal "United States Senate Youth Program". Compared to that, voting for the measure almost does seem an accomplishment.

Now, I remember hearing about the bill and some of the wording, and if memory serves, it was far more 'comprehensive' than Politifact is claiming it to be. However, as I can't find a link to the actual proposed law, I'm not going to ask you to accept that point. Just throwing it out there in the hopes that you might have it handy and we can take a look together, mm?
