Look, the sleeveless chain mail is to demonstrate his great strength. His muscles are SO BIG they won't fit in normal chain mail.
I was going to mention how once again, Merlin needed the help of someone with no magic to make his work, and how this time they had made it a comedic bladder moment, but I reckoned you'd notice. And I think the Sword-in-stone thing will now be used to prove he is the rightful King of all Albion, not just Camelot. That, or Morgana will somehow develop a plan without Morgause (which, if E.Fox doesn't come back, and Morgana suddenly starts developing her own cunning plans which might actually work if it hadn't been for that pesky Merlin, will bother me more than anything else so far, as Morgana is rubbish and bad at planning) and cast him out and he will have to prove who he is or summat.
It is getting better. They're worrying less and having more fun with the writing, I think, and so the anachronistic things jar less.
