Hello from the Indian Ocean

Jun 12, 2011 15:10

I can't believe it's already day 41 of the 46 day cruise around the Indian Ocean. I'll be back home in a few days, and have waved goodbye to our last port, Mauritius. It's been an amazing time on the ship. I've had little "taster" visits to Malaysia, Thailand, India, South Africa, Reunion Island and Mauritius - just enough time to decide if I want ( Read more... )

almost over, bucket list, cruise, mauritius

Your photos are amazing! You've seen so many beautiful and awesome places/people/animals. The lions...OMG, you're so lucky!

I know, right? My parents hopefully know how much I appreciate the experiences on the ship and the countries and also the dedicated time with them. I can't imagine having another experience like it and I thank them often, even now we're back in the life-consuming swirl of the mundane :}

Wow, I can't believe your trip is almost over. What was the segway safari like?

That all sounds marvelous! I can't believe it's almost over, but I've been living vicariously through it. :)

It has been marvellous, and not something I could ever imagine doing any other time of my life. The time on the ship would drive my husband around the bend - not a group joiner or keen on crowds.

I'm glad you've been enjoying it too :}

Wonderful pics! I'd love to walk with lions and see the other animals up close in those game preserves and nature parks!

Apparently they've started to have some of the young tigers doing the walks :} Or so their facebook page suggests. I was quite happy with the experience I had but tigers... that would be special too :}

Yay Reunion Island! did you get to go for any walks in the cirques or eat any good rougails? Perhaps Julien will ask for a contract there in a few years; it's an island we both enjoy.

We didn't get to do much, actually. We took a bus tour up to the Piton de la Fornaise, which took most of the morning, then the weather closed in and we had a dismal long drive back to the ship. We stopped at a little village for some lunch, but I wouldn't recommend the restaurant. The food was ok, but they didn't set out enough tables or hire enough staff to handle us so it didn't leave a good impression.

I think we'd need to spend a few days there to really explore it.

How are you and your gorgeous family doing in your new place?

That's a pity.

The weather around the Piton can be tricky. It is super changeable and oftentimes completely unrelated to what is going on a mere 5-10 km away.

And that is truly too bad about your food (and the service). Good creole fare is delicious and not to be missed.
