A new Scrabble drug?

Jul 17, 2007 12:43

Just saw an ad for a drug called "Lexapro".  It says it's for treating depression, but it sure sounds like it might be a good alternative to Zyzzyva!  I'll have to discuss it with my physician to see if it's right for me....

A while beck, my shrink suggested a bipolar drug called Topamax (dubbed "Dopamax" by an online support group) which has among its many lovely common side effects aphasia, a loss of the ability to produce and comprehend language. I think it was his way of telling me I should give up this game...

Oh, I really don't think that the "ability to produce and comprehend language" has much to do with Scrabble. As long as the side efffects didn't include the loss of ability to memorize strings of letters, you'd be fine. (And if not, you could always try supplementing with Lexapro.)

I was on this a few years ago. Disclosure said, "Possible delayed ejaculation may occur." Heh. More like don't plan on your dick getting hard for the next year. The effects are similar on women. It didn't necessarily help the focus, either, except to the degree that I wasn't focussing on being depressed. I much more highly recommend time-release stimulants.

Well, thanks for the warning....I won't be trying it! But I still want to know why they gave it a name that sounds like you'll be a professional wordsmith if you take it. Why not "Relaxafil" or "Contentanol"? Do they just pick syllables out of a hat to name these drugs?
