tl;dr: doctor who fandom and me

I love Doctor Who. First and foremost, I love Doctor Who. I love classic Who, I love new Who, I love the audios and the books and the spin-offs. I don't always like them, but I do love the franchise for all its faults and all its virtues. I even love the fandom, although I can easily say I don't always like it. The thing that has always bothered me about fandom is that me liking a character makes me feel ashamed and like I have to justify liking that character. WHICH MIGHT BE LARGELY HYPOCRITICAL BECAUSE RIVER-LOVERS CERTAINLY HAVE A FUCKLOAD TO JUSTIFY TO ME AT THE MOMENT, but you know, if someone likes River I'm not really judging them, in the same way that I'm not really judging the person if they tell me they like Twilight or something. I'm just judging their taste. I am not going to lie, there is nothing about Moffat right now that I find myself enjoying, that includes his plots, which are largely derivative of THEMSELVES, to the point that if he manages to keep going with this, I think that bucket of ideas that is getting quite low might implode if he keeps going.

So the reason I like RTD right now is because pretty much nothing is worse than Moffat at the moment to me. But that doesn't put RTD on the pedestal of glorious writing that can never go wrong. We've seen it go wrong, quite often. Even though I adore Paul Cornell, I'm not ( ... )
