So I'm doing this painting for a theater company that does stage productions of the Narnia books. The subject of this (very large) painting is Aslan roaring. vaklam took Brendan out tonight so I could work on it, and when they came back the lion was taking shape. Brendan looked at it and looked at it ( Read more... )

Have you ever thought of introducing him to the concept of learning lucid dreaming, for fun? When I was a kid, I hated going to bed because it always took me an hour or more to fall asleep, and it was boring (at the best of times) and worrying (at the worst of times) to have all that empty thinking time. I read a book about lucid dreaming when I was nine or so, and actually got enthusiastic about doing all the backwards counting and such. I didn't actually have that much success with the dreaming, but it sure did help me get to sleep painlessly each night.
Um. Maybe he's a little young for bio-feedback and stuff, though. :)

Heh-- he's a bit young, but I'm hoping in time he'll grow to enjoy having that wakeful daydreaming time before drifting off. From the age of seven or so, I would always make up action-adventure scenarios for myself or for characters I created... which actually caused me to go to sleep later, since I'd get so wound up in the plot, and in doing different "takes" on the same scene in my head... but it kept me quiet and in bed, so problem solved!

Your son has the most incredibly vivid imagination - it's such a joy to read of these things you post about him :)

Happy Holidays! :)

Aww, thanks! I love having him around. :-)

He has talked to the lion a few more times this morning, very innocuous stuff, like, "What do you want for breakfast?" but in a very loud voice, as if perhaps the lion is hard of hearing. I asked him if he liked the lion and he said yes. I think I'm going to have to get a print of this one before I send it off to the buyer, so Brendan will have it to talk to. :-)

I sort of look like Aslan roaring when I yawn. Just without all the mane and majesty.
