Shut up, shut up, shut up!!!!

One of my bigger pet peeves is when I tell someone about a problem I'm having, like migraines, and they say, "Oh, that's not migraines, that's just a headache." Or when they go on about how they had the same thing, only much worse. First of all, shut up. Second, did I ask? Third, thanks for completely invalidating my pain.

I hear ya, sweetie. I hate that sort of shit.

In fact, did I tell you about the time MY problem got invalidated, only MUCH WORSE than that?

...kidding........ honestly, I hate that. Nothing worse than having to justify your pain, or stew silently.

See, from you I don't mind, because your story is going to be funny. With people at work, not so much with the funny, and I have to just nod and try really hard not to yawn. I don't care about their medical ailments, just like they don't really care about mine, and I wouldn't tell them about mine if they wouldn't ask.

I'm just gonna start telling people that if they want to just talk about themselves, that's fine. Just warn me in advance.

LOL. That sounds good! You'll be up for the Victoria "Tact is not saying true things" Pusateri Bluntness Award at this rate!

*nods* I completely agree! Of course, this is my prima donna side showing, but I just want to say, "Hi. We weren't talking about you. This is about me, remember? Me, ME, MEEE!!!!"

Seriously, though, why do people think that makes us feel better? "Oh, you had it much worse than me? Thanks, I feel so much better now! I mean, if you had it much worse than me, then my pain really doesn't mean anything, now does it?"

*eyeroll* Morons.

Exactly!!! It's like, "Oh, okay, I didn't realize that I was just imagining all the pain. Thanks for setting me straight, jackass!"

Only I would never actually say that, because I pretend to be a nice person at work.

No one understands a migraine unless they've had one where all you could do --after you take the medicine-- is curl up in a dark room and try not to vomit, cry and/or die. Until then they should SHUT UP.

Sorry if you're having one. But I believe they're above PMS as excuses for homicidal rages.

I completely agree. I wasn't having one today, though. Someone else had one this morning, and decided that the ones I have aren't nearly as bad as hers.

Inject that person with a shot of empathy. No clue whatsoever.

Next time tell her: you kow how bad a migraine gets when you don't take your medicine? Well, mine is that bad NOW after two doses!

Who cares if you're lying?

I'm so sorry you have migraines, too. I know I've told Jen about this medicine, but if you haven't tried it yet, try Imitrex. It worked wonders for my mom's migraines. Although she's taking something else currently, that also works. But I forget the name.

I think some people are so stupid they don't realize that they're one upping you--they're trying to bond with you over whatever when they do that "oh that's bad, but listen to this even worse thing!"

I've found that it's really easy for people to accidentally become a one-upper. Heck, even I have trouble with it sometimes.
