Okay people, today we’re doing a live test of a very popular Pinterest Pin:
Magical Tub Cleaner (

Two things you should know about me:
- I hate cleaning.
- No, just that one thing.
So when I saw a pin that purported a “magical” cleaning agent, I was very interested. I hate scrubbing. Like, a lot. But then I saw this pin, that promised to just clean everything up for you - you just spray on, let it sit for a while, and rinse off. At least, that’s my understanding.
And I've always wanted to wave a wand, mutter "scourgify", and make everything clean.
I pinned this one a while ago, and eventually bought what I needed - vinegar and blue Dawn dish soap. Because the pin says you HAVE to have blue Dawn dish soap. Nothing else will do. Not the cheap stuff that costs about a third as much.
Anyway, I bought it all a while ago, and it’s been sitting in my kitchen, because like I said, I hate cleaning. Even if it’s with magical ingredients that will do it all for me.
But today, I’m bored. And I just washed out my Dollar Store spray bottle, so it’s nice and clean and ready for this project. And I’m waiting for water to boil for lunch, so I have some spare time on my hands. And my bathtub is pretty dirty.
So I warmed up some apple cider vinegar (because it’s what I have) in the microwave. Let me just say, I really hate the smell of vinegar. And warm vinegar? Yuck. So I’m sacrificing a little just to share this with you. (And also to magically clean my bathroom.) Anyway, warmed up the vinegar for a minute in the microwave. Poured it into the bottle.
Probably should of let it cool down a bit. There was a few tense seconds where I wondered if my Dollar Store spray bottle would hold up to hot liquids. It was a little touch and go, but I’m happy to report that it is still in one non-melted piece. Mostly because I decided to add an equal amount of soap to the bottle ASAP, so the temperature would drop. Then I put on the lid and shook it all up, which created a beautiful, horrible smelling blue foam in the bottle.
I sprayed it liberally in the bathtub. I will not share a “before” picture, because, as I mentioned earlier, my bathtub is pretty dirty. Because I hate cleaning. It’s all related here, folks. And because I was in the bathroom already, and my sink is there, and it’s also not the paragon of cleanliness I want it to be, I also sprayed that down pretty well. And then turned on the fan, pulled the door closed so my bedroom would not smell like soapy vinegar, and now it’s currently working it’s magic, and I’m still waiting for water to boil. I will report back after lunch.
After lunch:
I’m back! I just grabbed a scrubby brush and went to town on the bathtub. And by “went to town”, I mean, I lightly scrubbed while rinsing with the showerhead. And, to my HUGE surprise, it worked fairly well! The smell is still…not ideal, but my bathtub is cleaner. Not all the way clean (the bottom of our tub is textured, I imagine so that old people have less of a chance of slipping and killing themselves in the shower, but it’s very hard to get all the way clean) - I sprayed another layer and will attack it again in an hour or so - but clean to the point where I would willingly take a bath in there now. And, to be honest, most of it came up with water and a quick pass of the brush. It was pretty cool, people.
I should say that I was very skeptical of this one. I was fully convinced that it wouldn’t work, and I would just end up with a bathroom that stunk and a huge blue mess on my hands. I’m glad that wasn’t the case. So I will call this one a win, and keep a bottle of cleaner in the bathroom (although I might try adding some essential oil to counteract the vinegar smell).
So is this the Harry Potter of cleaning agents? Well, it's no Scourgify, but it's close enough for me.
