Mobility and sundry

So, as I said on facebook, Ally is crawling now, officially. She started this a few days ago, very tentatively. She would take a few "steps," then fall on her tummy. Then on Sunday she got markedly better, suddenly able to crawl all the way across the room without falling at all. Then turning around and crawling back, like she did in the video ( Read more... )

Wrt car seats, the current recommendation from the AAP is to keep kids rear-facing until at least the age of 2 -- or as long as their seat will allow, and it's best to find a seat that will allow it for as long as possible. The absolute minimum is one year old AND 20lbs. Rear facing is significantly safer than forward facing!

Why not get a convertible seat? Babies R Us has the Graco MyRide 65 on sale for $129, IIRC, and that'll last until she's 65lbs (at least 4-5!). :)

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather... :( I hope things go as easily, comfortably, painlessly and stress-free as possible for him and the rest of your family. **hugs**

Ah, good to know, the seats themselves (from our quick browse) only listed the 20 pounds, and I know she is getting close to that. Will probably end up going w/ the kind that go from 5-100 pounds then, so we don't have to buy another one at all.

That makes sense... :) I know Diapers.com is having a 25% off Britax sale (link) through tmw, if that helps... :)

That's what we got - a 5-100lbs seat since it'll last the rest of the time (except straight up booster which is only $20 and by the time she gets to it the convertible will be expired). We switched to our convertible at 2 or 3 months, once she had enough head control that sitting up a little bit taller was ok (we couldn't get an identical angle with the convertible as we had with the infant). This is the one we got: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11468535... )
