WIP Diary 2.0: Into the Woods

We went on a little research expedition last week, hoping it would trigger some inspiration and help me figure out what project to work on next. We visited the closest "old growth" forest preserve, this one at Snyder-Middleswarth State Park. It had rained all day the day before and was overcast, foggy and with a steady mist the day we went. And you ( Read more... )

Thank you! I love having this place to record these early steps, so I can go back and trace the birth of the book.

Okay, you made me want to go hiking. Making Bob go with me this weekend!

Enjoy your new project, whatever it turns out to be! xoxo

Yay! My good deed for the week! We're already making plans for two weeks from now. (My weekends are limited because of the day job.) Going to hit two more preserves that are relatively nearby. I'm hoping it rains again, isn't that insane?

I'm excited about the project, but it needs a working title. I hate not having a handle for things! Calling it "New Project" isn't working for me!

I'm the same with working titles. I have a WIP called "Z" because the MC's name starts with a Z, but that is NOT a good title. ;)

Love this, Melissa. I once visited an old-growth (as in pre-colonial) forest in Massachusetts, and I've never forgotten how enormous the trees were, and how quiet the place was, and how strangely clear the ground was. As you describe so well.

Very exciting to hear about the beginnings of a new book!

Thank you, Amy! I think we were about five years too late for this forest, as many of the largest trees had fallen fairly recently. Hoping to visit a few others next week. Most of the best preserves are a six hour drive or more away. Don't know if we'll manage that this year.

I was surprised that it wasn't quite what I expected it to be. But it was fascinating and addictive. Need more!

I really want to be dug into a new project before the last book goes out to editors. Self defense!
