Thanks everyone who answered my Camera question , it was most helpful and hopefully I can find one close to my price range in the new year .

I never did photography at school and instead I did woodwork , now I wish I had of done photography and I love seing others photos especially Danny's photos and I am in awe of so many people that can take great ( Read more... )

Oooh, I missed that one! I would totally recommend the Canon S5 IS. It's a really excellent semi compact (I wouldn't recommend a DSLR unless you're getting pretty seriously into photography).

It's 8 megapixels, has 12x optical zoom and a really fantastic macro mode. My previous digital camera (on which I took most of the photos on my flickr account) was two earlier than this one and I got years of fun out of it.

You might also do well to read some stuff about the theories behind photo composition online. They really helped me (I've never done a course in photography, I'm just self taught). Good luck with it anyway, I find photography incredibly fun and rewarding.

As an S3IS owner I agree, though due to the small (1/2.5") sensor there are other cameras (eg. Fuji F-series) better suited for indoor-without-the-flash type shots. If you're on a budget or don't think you need so much zoom (or near video-camera-like video quality) you can also look at the Canon A-series (eg. A650IS, A720IS).
