How some people can not like the smashing pumpkins is beyond me; but that is too much to handle.

While I still enjoy the Smashing Pumpkins, I have recently come to the realization that a notable portion of Mellon Collie is rather mediocre. Sure, there are many great tunes ("1979," "Tonight Tonight," "Thirty-Three," etc.), but many songs that I thought were great when I was younger seem really mediocre now ("Bullet With Butterfly Wings," "Zero"). There are also some songs such as "Cupid De Locke" which are really crappy. And I really dislike everything after Mellon Collie.

Still, they were an extremely talented group whose highlights (Siamese Dream and some of Mellon Collie) will always eclipse their more boring work.

But still, that kid fucking sucks.

you probably havent listened to it enough nor given it the chance...though 1979,tonight tonight and thirty three are very good songs there are so more many great songs on that Cd and the fact that most of them are very contrasting (i.e. tonight tonight through Tales of the scorched earth makes them so much better of a band than most popular or mediocre bands of today. They did what most bands are doing today back in what was that early ninetys? all of a sudden people have decided that one feeling in one song is boring and that the new sing scream thing is in. Though your right that siamese dream is so much better than mellon collie...you'd have to pick up Gish to hear them at their younger years. I think that a bands first Ep or Lp is the best because they arent really sure what they want to sound like yet and they are so fresh into their careers and scared at the same time.
