Math trumps Grammar!!!!!

Ok, so it's been awhile since a real update. I've got some valid excuses: Megan's wedding, New Year's, and then being plagued by a cold for the past couple of days. I feel marginally better, much thanks to tea, several good books, a rather comfortable couch, and a nice warm fire. Definitely no thanks to the lousy cold medicine we have. I'm ( Read more... )

I'm inclined to say that the person who claims "most" wins over the one who claims "infinite". "Most" indicates a relative amount--more than anyone else. "Infinite," however, is an abstract comment that's patently untrue; if anyone had a truly infinite amount of anything, it would crowd out the rest of the universe (which I hear they keep working out measurements for, indicating that the universe itself is not infinite), unless the thing being measured/counted were also an abstraction.

The English/Math double major trumps all.

Yeah, we were talking about abstract things. I think we somewhat came to an understanding that we were talking about the same thing...

Most is only refers to having a larger indefinite number where as Infinite knows no end or existing beyond any actual now non existent boundary.

But you can't have anything larger than infinity...because by definition, there's always something bigger than the biggest thing you can come up with...

I miss having arguments about things like infinity and gravity and physics. We need to hang out more.

The doctor is the boy's MOTHER!!! I think that the "two" people are really split personalities expressing the same quantity in different ways. Most equals infinity when most = All, and infinite easily equals most. Done. Now go get better and don't make me come out of my cave again.

Haha - thanks Chip.

By the way, sorry I haven't responded to your e-mail. I will, in due time. I'm just very lazy this vacation.

and the driving thing... anonymous January 5 2006, 10:48:15 UTC
You should be forced into the trunk with a blindfold and barfbag anytime the sky gets cloudy and someone else is driving. I'm going to make this my number one issue in the next election.
