Notes regarding Sarah Palin

I like the way the Republicans are acting as though in the light of all this pregnant daughter shit, nobody has a right to ask any questions about the candidate herself. How exactly does that work? The fact of the matter is, nobody fucking cares about her swole-up daughter: nobody, that is, except the conservatives McCain wants to court. The ( Read more... )

The more I read about her, the more offended I get. This is proof-positive that the GOP thinks women are stupid. Leaving aside her complete lack of experience, her politics are horrifyingly anti-woman. Sadly enough, there are some idiots out there who think it's woman's destiny to be barefoot and pregnant, waiting for her dear husband to get home so she can cook dinner and prop his feet him, but McCain is trying to grab the leftover Hillary supporters. Now, some of them might be stupid enough to vote woman just because she's a woman, but I'm guessing most of them are at least moderate if not liberal. And McCain assumes that they will now vote for him because he has a vagina on his ticket.

Jesus Christ. If he gets elected, I'm going to start looking into immigrating to Canada.

Being patronized this way must be really galling. This is almost as bad as ads for cleaning supplies that invariably show a woman in her early thirties wearing a big shit-eating grin while she (and she alone) mops, cooks, washes and irons clothes, etc. The way you feel about those is probably the way I feel about Army and Marine marketing tactics.

What's even more horrifying to me is some of the women around campus that I'm starting to hear talk about Palin in positive, hopeful terms. These are largely younger women who are too college-educated to be outright conservative, but who I suspect have internalized more of their conservative parents than they ever realized. Palin provides those women an out by letting them claim that she speaks to them as a woman, rather than that she alleviates some of the schizophrenia of their existence by giving them a justification to vote for a conservative.

You have to watch The Daily Show from last night -- their videos of Palin were hilarious, and spot-on. Did a great job of highlighting Republican hypocrisy. Good stuff.

Dr. Herndon actually showed us the clips from that when we were starting our Poli Sci class today. We were all laughing our asses off.

step 1: rally female voters behind a tool with a vagina.
step 2: deny women the right to decide what to do with their vaginas...

seems like a logical progression to me!
