This is my application submission for Scorched. You guys don't need to read this.

where did you find us?: I clicked on a link that Fai’s player posted on the KuroFai community, while they were requesting a Kurogane.
character name: Natsuo Sagan.
Fandom: Mangaverse Loveless.
Timeline: Modern-ish Japan.
character's age: Originally around 13, but I want to age him to 16.

powers, skills, pets and equipment: Natsuo can create “spells” using the power of words. His power is cut in half when he’s not with his other half, Youji, also known as his “sacrifice.” It was originally assumed that they could only use their “powers” while in a direct battle with another fighter unit, but recent chapters of shown that their abilities can be used in any circumstance.
I’m changing his abilities slightly because of his scorched status. His abilities still revolve around words, but I’m making it so that he can’t use his power on his own; he either has to draw his power from the mist, electronics, or other people. This won’t apply when he is with Youji, since they complete each other. Without Youji he isn’t whole, so neither is his magic. The way his magic works, in detail is this; he uses words and phrases to create things. If his apartment is cold, and he doesn’t have money to pay for heat, he might say “With the absence of heat comes despair, and with despair there comes death. I am stronger than death, I am stronger than despair. The room will warm my wary flesh.” The room would get a little warmer, and he’s be drawing the power from something like his neighbors laptop, or he’d kill a rat and use it’s “life-power.” Depending on how strong his spell is depends on if the room cools down when he falls asleep. If he goes farther than a mile away from his apartment, he’ll have to redo the spell when he returns.
I’ve also added that the blind eye hidden by his eyepatch has magical ability. Playing along the theme of words, if he removes the patch covering his eye and looks at someone who’s speaking to him, he will be able to discern their intent by either hearing the words they mean to say along with the spoken words, or seeing the true words written on a nearby poster, or appearing only to him in the mist. This gives him a headache, though, so he doesn’t do it often.
Without Youji his powers are cut in half. If and when he reunites with the Sacrifice, they will both return to full power. His abilities have practical limitations; he can’t effect anyone who he isn’t intending to, and distances weaken and nullify his spells. Example: If he wants to curse someone across the city, the distance is too far to work. If they’re only a few blocks away, though, he can still do it.
Because of his power in words, he has certain amounts of control over people by use of their names. This does not work with alias’s, and is strongest with normal, un-magical or weak-willed people. People with a strong will or magics of their own can fight him, and often overpower his control. If he learns your true name, or the name of your soul, though, it is near impossible to break his hold on you.
If met with someone with the same or similar abilities to him and Youji, he will be able to create a force-field like thing around them to fight or talk in. In their little bubble, time is nothing, although injuries sustained inside of it are the some when they come out. To other people, it will simply look like they disappeared, and they will reappear where they created the field. If he dies, then anyone inside of it will be trapped there. He can only do this after he finds Youji.
The mist has also affected his sense of touch; it’s very, very slowly starting to affect him. This is downright disturbing to him, because he has never physically felt pain in his entire life. Because he was created to feel, but not feel pain, the mist mainly enhances his muted sense of touch. Now, when he’s injured, it’s more like he’s gone numb, and the injury tingles unpleasantly depending on its severity.
canon history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loveless_%28manga%29
Natsuo is the second half of the male Zero pair. He, along with his other half, called Youji, was an artificial being created by Nagisa. It’s unknown how she created them; they grow and function the same as normal people, except for the fact that they can’t feel pain. His true name, or the name of his soul, is Zero, because he was artificially created. He has cat ears and a tail, which prove his virginity, and is blind in one eye. Although it hasn’t yet been explained how he lost his eye, the most commonly accepted theory among the fans is the when the two were younger, Youji stabbed it, trying to see if he could get Natsuo to feel the pain that they both lacked.

personality: Natsuo can be cold and crass towards people he doesn’t know, and is easily annoyed. When he’s around Youji they can be particularly vicious, even killing things and tormenting people. That’s usually just the influence of his partner though; out of the  two of them he is the gentler, calmer one. That still isn’t saying much, though. His coldness and generally uncaring demeanor may come off as obnoxious to most people, but he’s really just dedicated. If you manage to befriend him, he’s an ally for life. He’s also very childish, easily amused with a very demented sense of humor. He’s good with his hands, and likes to cut things up. He has a simple mind; if he thinks you’re annoying, he’ll tell you, and he tends to speak his mind, regardless of tact. In his mind, all that matters is protecting yourself and those you care about, and furthering your own success.
He has a weakness for cute things, though, and can be very sly. The mist messes with his emotions, and he often fluctuates between happy, upset and angry. Essentially, his attitude towards you depends on his mood at the time, and his first impression of you. He will seem kind of lost until he finds Youji. This might make him unresponsive, extra cruel or vulnerable, depending on the situation. The loss of his other half is physically painful for him, but as time goes on the pain will dull. If they are left apart for too long, they will both die.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Natsuo is a strong character who can take care of himself. He knows how to fight, and how to survive on his own. He never really cared much for the Japanese society in the first place, so the only thing here that will inhibit him is his loss of his Sacrifice.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample:

[The boy tapped curiously at the screen of the plastic object, amused at its simplicity. He was already on the network. He was just deciding what to say.]

Natsuo here. If anyone has found a violent boy with cat ears, tell me.

[Pausing, he chewed on his lip.]

And someone tell me what the hell is going on, and what I need to do about it.

[Satisfied, he set down the object, awaiting a response.]

Third Person Sample:
A sample at least 300 words in length.

Natsuo hesitated, unsure of the wisdom in his experimenting. He pushed his inhibitions to the back of his head, though, and finally let go the breath he was holding, bringing with it a stream of words.

“My ties may be cut, but never severed. I am Zero, and he is Zero, and thus we are forever connected, our lives intertwined in an indestructible knot of hope, love, strength, surivival…”

He placed his palms against the stone of the message wall, feeling the dirt beneath his fingernails, and underneath the dirt he felt the magic. It flowed under his skin, roiling and moving, occasionally pressing against his fingertips. It was the life of the messages; the life of those who were searching and inviting, hopeful or lost. Natsuo pulled that power into him, feeling it course through his arms, into his lungs and his throat, empowering his voice.

“…If he is here, we will find each other. Those who know where he is will tell us, for he is part of me, and where he is I am…”

He tasted the words, their flavor different in this new world. They danced in his mouth, electric and smooth, pulling the breath from his lungs, numbing his unresponsive lips. The spell tasted different here, although he wasn’t sure that he didn’t enjoy it. The pain in his chest, one so familiar yet so new, burned at the thought of his loss, of what he was missing. With the overwhelming power he felt he would cry. He wanted to wail to the sky, unleash anything he could to re-attach the string that bound him to his beloved Youji. He dug his nails into the stone, determined.
“…We are Zero. We are one. We feel nothing, yet we are always feeling, always seeing, hearing, smelling, and tasting the world and each other. Mt ties with him may be cut, but our bond will never be severed. I will continue to search, to crawl and slither through the stone, taking root in the minds of the people who know, but will not tell. Our halves will be whole again.”

The last words were forced out with the last of his breath, and he felt the burning of the spell, spreading from the pain in his heart into his breath and his fingertips, until it saturated the stone. As much as he wanted to wail to the grey, overcast sky, forcing this world to give him back his Youji, he knew that he couldn’t. Even with the burning of the power that he felt, he knew it was nothing compared to their combined strength. He was weak.

He finally managed to drag his hands away from the stone, his eyelid tiredly drooping as he turned away, acutely aware of the cold that settled in the tips of his ears and fingers, and pooled in his stomach. He physically pulled himself away from the magnetic pull of his spell, ferocious and strong in his desperation. If someone knew where his Youji was, weather they intended to tell him or not, he would now know, all due to the crumpling, yellowing piece of paper he had placed on the wall, which was intertwined with a spell so strong that most magic users could see it.

-= Searching for a young teenage boy with light green hair, cat ears and a tail. He’ll be angry, and be cautious; He bites. If found, please notify meet me by The Door in the afternoon of any day. I’ll be there waiting.=-

Anything else? If I use personal drawings of him, is that okay? Of Course, anything that affects other people I'll will be sure to ask their permission about (The names, seeing truth, cursing, that sort of thing.) If and When someone wants to play a Youji, I'll get in touch with them and see if they want to agree with  the couple of little things I've put about him. Everything that I've put is Canon, though, so they should have the same stuff. Have their abilities halved when apart is canon, and feeling extreme pain and eventually death when kept apart is also canon. If you need specific examples to check authenticity, just ask and I'll send you any links that you need.

Also: Have a cookie. :D
