Once upon a time, I read a news story about how there are microorganisms in the ground that get into our noses and mouths when we work in the dirt, and they can affect the brain to such an extent that they interact with our neurotransmitters like serotonin. They speculate that's why digging in the ground, like when gardening, is such a relaxing, calming activity. Isn't that bizarre?
...except for me. It's always ruined when an insect or spider scurries over me and I run away screaming. I'm scared of the outdoors.
That sounds really cool, and it makes sense! It's kind of scary though to think of stuff going in us and making us happy. ............quite the odd sentence, that. XD
There's even more scary things in the ground if you dig deeply enough. Insects and arachnids that never usually see the light of day. I was digging once and saw this revolting grub looking spider thing; it made me recoil, and bugs usually never scare me!
My father, who was a very outdoor guy, more or less forced me and my brother outside to work with whatever. My brother ended up loving it, turning into a dad-mini-me. While I... ended up HATING it. I still do. :-P Hence I happily live in an apartment now. :-D
