I'm not exactly far from my mom now, it takes approximately 14 minutes to drive there. And when I move I will be about 2 minutes from her, I think it's about a mile, maybe a little more. Theoretically I could walk there, but there's a big hill and soon it will be cold...

Downsizing is a very foreign concept that I'm having trouble embracing. I'm hoping it involves keeping everything I have and using some sort of shrink ray for ease of storage, yet I have a feeling that's not it.

Oooh, good call. I actually have some space bags my mom gave me that have sweaters in them. It's not just the off-brands, the space bags don't get exactly flat either. And a few of them lost their seals and puffed back up, but it's also possible I overstuffed them :)
