I'm hoping to find some strawberries cheap. mysteri June 14 2009, 00:22:22 UTC
Today I'm making whole wheat bread from wheat I ground myself. Hopefully they are bread and not bricks.

I found my strawberries wholesale at Costco. 4 lbs for $4.99. And the raspberries were $7.49 for six 6oz clamshells, I think. A very good deal, and the strawberries were almost all ripe or slightly under-ripe. I have enough leftover to do 2 more batches. If there's a local farmer's market nearby, you might find some there too, although they'll probably be more expensive. At ours, a flat of berries is around about 4 times as much as I paid at Costco.

As for the wheat bread, I've been thinking of doing that myself. My local co-op organic food store has a wheat grinding machine in their bulk section. Not quite hand ground but I thought it looked interesting enough to give it a try. How did your bread turn out? I've found that I always need to do half white flour and half wheat or else it ends up being very dense and doesn't rise as well.
