Well, opinion is cheap, but my opinion is that the BJD collector-ship is like every other interest group in the world...just because we have the liking for BJDs in common doesn't mean we are all automatically nice or that we will all get along. If that were the case, BJDs should be a new religion. =P It's common sense, really. But yes, I empathise with the touch of frustration and disappointment that I read from your entry. I wish it could be different, but it's just the way the cookie crumbles.
I often think it would be so fun with have a real-life meet-up with all the online BJD friends I've made, though. :)
One thing I really like about you, Shan, is that you can always find the logic, even in an emotional issue. :) You have a talent for putting common sense into words.
I agree with what you say! The BJD fandom is HUGE, and it's probably going to grow even more exponentially what with the direction it's taking with companies like Dollzone offering less expensive dolls.
Anyway, there's no point angsting in what might have been or what you think should be...the best thing to do is to take actions that help you to derive the most enjoyment out of a fun thing! :)
I'm girl and I don't get it either, and honestly I have yet to see a fandom that isn't like this, which is why I'm only in one ^_^ I haven't been to a meet up before but I'm going to one in June that looks like it'll be huge, I'm a little nervous. Plus it's Alice in Wonderland themed and to be honest I despise that story, it has bad memories for me. I volunteered to bring food since I and my doll will nto be dressing up. I'm not sure who to take though...
Ah, I've never liked the Lolita interpretation of Alice in Wonderland . ^_^; I hope you have fun at the meetup, though! Dolls look really good in real life. It's probably what convinced me I wanted a SD-sized doll.
Oh, that makes me sad. ;_; Seeing you and your sister was always one of my favorite parts of the meetups. Like a little bastion of sanity in a sea of WTF.
The only reason I still go, really, is to see and play with new dolls. Like test-driving a car, you know? I keep hoping to meet more cool, interesting people, but I don't really expect it anymore. The ones lately have just made me feel old.
I know! I feel the same way about you. <3 Whenever you were there at a meetup, I was like "Yaaaaay, it's Bella! yayyayyay! <3" I'd love to meet up with just you to hang out. We can always do that!
Ahboy, you've now convinced me that I don't want to go to any meetups ^^; I've been musing over the idea for a while, but the thought of meeting any of those sort of people who act like their dolls are alive has always put me off :/ I'd rather avoid the backstabbing too. Ohdear. *joins you in disillusionment with the fandom in general* ^^;
