Things for which I am thankful this year:
--Rob, my baby, my best friend. He's one of the most wonderful people I know, in every way, loving and kind and generous and helpful and funny and OMG-so-talented. I love him so much that I forgive him for the whole Magic: the Gathering thing.
--Chris, my unofficial son-in-law. He's such a great guy, and I'm so glad he and Rob have each other. In many ways (some good, some not), Chris is a lot like me--to the point where Rob quite often rolls his eyes and says, "I'm dating my mom!"
--Bella, Beau, Fozzie, Benny, Essie Meow, and Lee, not necessarily in that order.
--My friends. Even when I'm hibernating and not in touch, I think about you all every day and love you so much. I wouldn't have made it through the knee surgeries without all your thoughts and prayers.
--Barry and James, always.
--Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, John Simm, Philip Glenister, Roger Allam, John Finnemore, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, Johnny Depp, Tom Hiddleston, and all the other folks that I don't know personally but who have made my life happier this year.
--I still have a job, and I'm actually able to start thinking about retirement, but not until I get that one final trip to England. My job is going to change in the next few months and get a lot more complicated and...oh wait...I'm not thankful for that part.
--I have two new knees! No, they aren't perfect yet--at least the right one isn't--but it's getting there. Seven weeks out from surgery I was walking from one end of the mall to the other with Rob and without my cane, going to what I like to call "the card shop" (which isn't Hallmark). And I was able to do it and not hurt like hell afterwards! Miracles.
--My personal torturer physical therapist John, and the other folks in the dungeon, Lea and Michelle. I love them, and I'm really going to be sad when my PT is over, because I have no more knees so I won't be back (except to visit).
--The minor surgery to remove the cyst from my knuckle went very well and I was even able to type, after I lost the honking big bandage thing 48 hours post surgery. I still have the arthritis in the knuckle, but at least the cyst is gone.
--Since the start of the year, I've lost some weight, the amount depending on how you measure it. If you count it from my top weight, I've lost 40 pounds. If you count it from what the doc says I weighed at my last visit to him in 2011, I've lost 35 pounds. Amazing what being forced to exercise (PT) can do for you.
--There's going to be a third series of Sherlock, a fourth series of Cabin Pressure, and a new Star Trek movie in 2013--all things I can't wait to see/hear! I may even suck it up and go to the midnight showing of the Trek movie. I suspect that, like I did with The Avengers and Thor, I'll be cheering for the "villain" instead of the "heroes". Never let it be said that I don't embrace my shallowness! (Yes, Evil, I'm looking forward to Iron Man, but it's on the next level down in the Excitement List.)
I feel like I'm giving some sort of awards acceptance speech and just know I'm going to forget somebody or something...
Happy Thanksgiving!
