Apologies to IMAX and 3D

May 19, 2013 11:39

After all my complaints about IMAX and 3D, I ended up seeing Star Trek in both at the fan thing on Wednesday night. Why? Because the movie is a When Obsessions Fandoms Collide and three weeks ago I realized I couldn't wait for Friday--or even Thursday--and paid the extra money. I whined to myself because I didn't really want to see it that way, ( Read more... )

I'm aware that there are Trekkers who hate it sight unseen because [Spoiler], and they're entitled to their opinion, but I want to tell them to get a grip. All my Trekker and Trekkie friends have loved it.

Go see this movie. It's my favorite of the Trek films now--replacing TWoK after 30 years or so.

River Song is the reason I finally learned to love Matt Smith's Doctor. I think everybody knows I have a huge girl-crush on her.

Doesn't everyone?

Regarding Star Trek in 3D (and trying not to SPOILER)... my brother was literally dodging the, um, projectiles in the opening sequence, mega-smile on his face.

And yeah, don't tell anyone, but I thought this movie was better than IM3 and, hmm, what was that big blockbuster hit last summer?

If Thor: Dark World is half as good at Star Trek: Into Darkness, I will be an ecstatic fangirl.

Dread and I were talking about this at lunch. Our learned opinion is that you can't compare Avengers and STID because they're both The Best of Movies Ever, each in their own way. The Avengers have the delectable and wonderfully evil Loki and Star Trek has the delicious and wonderfully evil John Harrison. May I just say one more time that I want a movie/book/fanfic/anything with Loki and John. I can just see it...

"The world?" Loki sneered. "You seriously believe that wanting to take over your puny planet is a worthy goal? No, my friend. Together we shall rule the galaxy!"

[And then they go off and have deliciously evil sex.]

*smacks self back to reality, or what passes for it*

Oh my, Guess I'll be seeing it in 3-D. Even though I usually eschew it. 90% of the time all that 3-D adds to a movie is a $3 surcharge.

I had to go see it in 3D again, just for comparison purposes. I don't think you'll be disappointed with whichever version you see.
