I sat down to write up Christmas cards today---something my mother used to demand we do as soon after Thanksgiving as possible---only to find that I only have a handful to send out, really. Sweetie, it's festive. What's more seasonal than a snowman? Even though their lives are, you know, touched by tragedy.

Frosty the Snowman
Had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye
Saying don't you cry
I'll be back again some day.

Now who wouldn't that move?

I do not need to openly express my festive spirit. I can keep it to myself, actually, without coming off as a Grinch or Scrooge.

I've never really pondered the heroic life of a snowman before, though. Crafted by children as a symbol of youth and winter...and then left to puddle morosely as the weather turns.

It's a good thing it doesn't snow here often.
