"I-it's not - no, no, you don't - it looks lovely," Kira said, both hands raised in front of him - whether defensive or merely placating, he wasn't sure himself.
"Yeah?" Kenpachi glowered at him, bells jangling in warning.
"Yes. Yes!" Kira backed out of the room, fervently damning Renji for playing on his fear of clowns.
"Good. Cuz," and here Kenpachi hiked his thumb at his vice-captain, "she did it."
Yachiru held up the pots of face paint proudly. "Ken-chan looks so cool!"
"Of-of course," Kira said, and fled.
Renji, Byakuya//Bureaucracy
"Are you sure," Byakuya said cooly, "that this is the correct form?"
"Uh, yuh." Renji scratched his head. "Aquarium something, right?"

"Oh, right." Renji nodded enthusiastically.

Gin does not apologize, but his hands are gentle, his face is gentle and Kira does not touch his sword where the hilt rises from his belt.
"I don't understand," he says, soft, and Gin kisses his temple before answering:

"I don't get you at all, man," Renji says, slinging a drunken arm over Kira's shoulders. Kira gives his captain an apologetic look as he attempts to steer his fellow vice-captain out of the room.
"I mean, you have such weird taste in m-"
"Renji," Kira says, desperate to keep his former classmate from saying too much.
"S'true," Renji protests, "I mean he's so -" Kira makes a distressed sound and redoubles his efforts; behind them, Gin smiles.

"So you never really needed..." His voice broke and he stopped, hands flapping like broken birds.
"Oh, no," Gin said affably, "Who else would have done the paper work?"

Or maybe he could get started on tomorrow's, or even the day after's, because, really, one could never be too prepared, and there was that one saying about idle hands and Kira tried very hard never to have idle hands or an idle mind or really allow the word "idle" to describe him at all and -
"Izuru," Gin drawled from the door way, "don't you think it's time for bed?"
