They’d just received word that Donnie was back in California, despite the fact that they weren’t supposed to know for security reasons. It wasn’t as though Paige had hacked the security system to find where he was next based or Johnny had put some feelers out in the FBI community. They’d never think about doing anything illegal like that.

They found out that he was going to be ‘back’, using the phrase lightly because he’d never be back in Graceland, but he could be on other assignments - he was a DEA agent, of course he’d be back in the field as soon as he was healed from his wound. They honestly didn’t expect him to be back undercover after so little time but that didn’t surprise them - Donnie could always bounce back from any injury. Lauren once smashed a bottle over his head and he kept playing his part perfectly. It wasn’t until later when he almost passed out and they found he had a concussion and skull fracture that they realised how high his pain tolerance was.

Needless to say, his house mates missed him. Even Jakes - though he wouldn’t care to admit it out loud, it wouldn’t be good for his image. They tracked his location to a small house on the far coast of California, on the opposite end to Graceland. They all planned to make the drive, admittedly this was postponed several times due to cases but after the third time Briggs and Charlie agreed to make the drive and scope out Donnie’s new area.

They were sure to take one of the new cars, one that would blend into the surroundings - Donnie knew them too well and knew their cars even better, he was one of the best DEA agents - these things didn’t tend to miss these kinds of things easily. They parked a little away from the house and sat there, waiting - alternating time to get out of the car and take a look at the various surroundings.

If Briggs were to voice any opinions of the area, he would have said that it looked boring - not the kind of neighborhood for someone like Donnie. Donnie lived for the excitement, lived for the chase of people who were doing wrong, people who were breaking the law. This neighborhood, on the other hand, looked quite similar to Graceland’s but it just had a different vibe. It didn’t have the same dangerous feel that theirs did, but the Graceland house knew that Donnie was doing more under the covers - infiltrating the slightly high end crime, with the wealthier Mexicans who had chosen to commit crimes. The one thing that they did notice was that Donnie chose to spend a reasonable amount of time away from the house - where that was, they didn’t know. But they wanted to.

After two more failed trips, all of the Graceland house was finally available to go and visit Donnie. It was just a shame that Lauren wasn’t with them anymore - although she did have a little bit of an obsession, beyond a partnership, with Donnie. They all knew what it was like to care about a partner, but she started to take things to a new level, which the house could see that he was uncomfortable with.

They pulled up in the same spot as before and saw that Donnie was exiting the house, walking towards a dark blue car. They cautiously followed him to an apartment complex where they saw him knock on a door. The person who opened the door was around average height with short hair, his arm in a sling and leg wrapped up in a cast. They saw the two clasp arms, exchanging a few words before walking out of the house.

They couldn’t take it any longer, it had been months since they’d last seen one another, with the exception of Mike who was always curious of the infamous Donnie, especially after their brief encounter.

They looked at the body language of the two men, showing openness - the kind that couldn’t be faked or develop after a couple of months. No, this was a more meaningful friendship - or relationship, they’d never really found out Donnie’s preference when he was in the house. He just...didn’t seem to date. He never really obviously picked up anyone in the bars, sure he flirted but he’d always go back to the house at the end of the evening, unless he was on a case.

“They have very distinctive stances,” a voice said from behind them. A voice they didn’t recognise, which put all of the agents on edge. They turned round and saw the injured man standing behind them, with Donnie standing next to him, arms folded with his look of disapproval pointed at all of them.

“You know these people, Quinn?” The man asked, moving into a slightly more offensive stance, if that were even possible - he was in quite a offensive one to start with, despite his obvious disadvantage.

Donnie nodded once, his eyes glancing over each of the agents standing before him. Disapproval seemed to just radiate from him, obvious by the fact that his hand still stayed behind his back, where the Graceland team (with the exception of Mike) knew that he kept his gun. Then it started to sink in, Quinn? His name was Donnie, at least they had always called him Donnie, Quinn was an alias that they’d never heard of.

“Donnie? How’ve you been, son?” Johnny asked, bouncing slightly from foot to foot as though he were restraining himself from something. Donnie simply nodded in response.

“I’m good Johnny-boy. Healed up nicely,” he said simply, relaxing slightly, which seemed to reassure the man next to him. Johnny took this as a good sign and almost knocked over Donnie with the force of his hug. Donnie seemed to have to bend his knees slightly and sway a bit before he got his balance back, but he seemed genuinely happy to see the other man, before swatting him away when the other man wouldn’t take a hint. This seemed to open the hug flood-gates as all of the agents took their turn with the other man, the girls pulling him into hugs and the guys doing the manly slapping each other on the back to disguise the hug as something else.

“Quinn, you want to introduce us?” The unknown man said, seeming to be happy from the pleased and content nature of Donnie, now that he knew for certain that they weren’t unfriendlies.

“El, this is Briggs, Charlie, Johnny, Paige, Jakes and Mike - I used to be in a house with them.” He said, pointing out each team member to his companion.

“Nice to meet you, El, was it?” Charlie said, holding out her hand to the other man, who simply smirked.

“It’s short for Lindsey, me and Quinn have known each other for a long time.” Eliot said, taking the hand that was offered.

“Dude, what’s with this Quinn business, you’re Donnie aren’t you?” Johnny said, scratching his head in confusion.

“Yes and no.” Quinn said.

“I’m Donnie, in the sense that Jakes is DJ, and you are Johnny. Donnie is just a nickname that was given to me when I joined the house - came from a case with some Serbian nationals. El knows me as Quinn as that’s more of my real name than Donnie,” Quinn explained, it wasn’t every day that he shocked the Graceland team - he doubted he’d ever seen the Leverage team this quiet!

Reminded of the Leverage team, Quinn turned to Eliot and reminded him of their little agreement, specifically the favour that was owed to him. Eliot simply chuckled.

“I thought I’d not beat you too bad the next time we were on opposite sides, we wouldn’t want any more broken ribs, right?” Eliot said, remembering that fight fondly - it wasn’t every day you fought a Hitter like Quinn.

“Besides, you know you can always ask for favours, Huckleberry,” he said teasingly. Quinn laughed a bit at this.

“Who doesn’t love that movie.” He said as a matter of fact, noting that Mike raised his hand slightly before putting it down at Charlie’s shaking head.

“Wait, what does he mean by broken ribs?” Paige said, sounding slightly concerned.

“The first time we met, I beat him up pretty bad - although he did get a fair few punches in as well,” Eliot said.

“More than just a few, I broke your rib first remember. You were spitting up blood for a decent length of time after that fight,” Quinn retaliated, that point was the beginning of a very interesting friendship.

“And, what is it you do Lindsey?” Briggs asked, wanting to know more about the mystery man.

“Me, well I guess you could say I’m a bit of a Retrieval Specialist, I do some similar things to Quinn here, we run in similar circles,” he said, being intentionally vague so that they’d think he was more...white hat than he actually was.

Quinn could see the distrust in Briggs’ eyes and thought it best to diffuse the tension - or add to it, depending on how they reacted. He knew where his loyalties sat - with the man to his left hand side. There was no better partnership than two hitters, who else could you put all your faith in and wouldn’t have to worry too much about protecting - they’d want to keep up with the punches!

“We’ve been dating for the past five years, haven’t we babe,” Quinn said, snaking his arm around the shorter man’s waist, pulling him slightly closer to his side. He smirked when he noted the wide eyed looks that he was receiving from the other team members - god, he missed shocking people. He wouldn’t have done anything differently - he was happy with his fellow hitter and nothing any of them said would change that. They were the ones who had the decision to make. After that, he might be a bit more truthful about his ‘double life’ but for now, he’d see how they reacted to his relationship - the best part of his life.
