At the risk of "getting you started"...I completely agree! (Even if the computer did just steal my comment...grrr). Broderick is rather one note at the best of times (even in Ferris Bueller), but if paired with the right character, it works. Did you like Broderick in "The Producers"? I thought he was great there, because even though he's a con man, he's really more hapless and taken advantage of by Lane. Harold Hill isn't anyone's patsy and that did not come through. Sigh. And I love Chenoweth's voice and personality off-screen, but this is actually the first I've ever seen her act and it didn't work. You're right on with Garber-- I loved him in Titanic and Alibi, but those were both dead serious and the mayor in MM is comic relief. Totally missed it. Even his wife, played by SNL alum Molly Shannon, couldn't seem to pull off the comedy with any more than a few horse faced grimaces.
Any comments on the very similar-feeling Glen Close "South Pacific" remake they did about the same time? :)
Ah what is it with men who don't want to watch the Olympics? Tim is the same way. I figured it was because he really doesn't like to watch any sports on TV, or even live for that matter. I could barely get him to watch HIS OWN SONS wrestle in high school (and before that? forget about it!). Seriously, he'd prefer to watch a crappy reality show (Storage Wars, Gator Boys, Duck Dynasty...) than the Olympics! I have to retreat to another room to watch. It's not like I'm glued to the set every weekend watching track and field, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, and rowing. Heck, no! I only watch this stuff once a year, when the best of the best are on display.
I thought that was what you meant. Yeah, Jeff doesn't care for any sports either-- he claims he's a Leafs fan, but I can barely get him to watch those games when they happen to be aired here, let alone anything else. Not that I'm a sports fan either, but I enjoy the red sox, and of course the olympics. Oh well. Max is starting to take a bit of interest, so that helps.
