I just checked by bank account balance and finally after waiting over a month the County of Alameda has cashed my check to file for divorce. Of course this is just the beginning of the process which takes about 6 months. There is stil much paperwork to do, forms to sign, etc. but hopefully I will get something from the court soon saying that I have ( Read more... )

Yeah for you :) I work in a law office, so I'm used to the courts in general taking forEVER to cash checks. . . makes accounting peeps crazy. . . .

Is there anyway to make it happen faster? I want this whole awful process over sooner than later.

The check cashing a month later should not affect your filing date. If that were the case EVERY court filing would be totally screwed.

And no way to make anything move faster. 6 months is the standard time period. My understanding is that amount of time is allocated to give both parties a chance to change their minds, should they choose to. I've been through 3 of these with my mom. . .she's on husband #4. . .this one is til death do the part.

I filed like a year and a half ago, and mine still isn't final. That's coz of the kids and child support and stuff tho. Should be done in the next few weeks though. Perhaps we can celebrate together!

congrats, I'm sure you'll soon have this all behind you.

new mexico was much easier...took like three days or something the judge just had to sign the papers.
