I am massively behind the times. So... Tracy Chapman, Annie Lennox, Sinead O'Connor, Voice of the Beehive, Tori Amos (who I don't know, but know she does piano-y stuff).

Have you tried LastFm.com or Pandora? At both places you can enter songs/artists you like, and play a station, which will then use what you entered to play stuff it thinks you might like, which might be someone you know, or it might not. Then you can either love it, ignore it or ban it if you hate it. Fun way to discover new artists. At LastFM will also collect a record of what you listen to, so you can see what your listening habits over time are (at present, my taste really seems to be skewed towards Green Day, but that's because my son really likes them and plays the two albums I have every time he gets a chance).

I could list you every artist on my ipod, but then this would be a very long comment. ;p

I have no idea if his music's available overseas, but I'm on a mission to pimp Joel Plaskett to anyone who I think might like him. His album, Three, is completely amazing and won the Juno (Canadian Grammy) for Best Adult Alternative album last year. His back-up singers are female, but he obviously isn't. And it's mostly guitar-based, but there are also lots of other instruments. Anyways, if you can track down "Three" I hope you like it!
