I thought the creative writing side of the internet decided a long time ago that violet was not a valid eye color.

(Bonus: I initially typed violent instead of violet. I think I could actually believe the phrase "violent eyes" quicker than the other.)

Tell that to the animators of Superman: the Animated Series that made Lois Lane's eyes violet. And then were unsurprised when it clashed badly with anything other than the one outfit they'd probably coordinated her eyes with.

I think Elizabeth Taylor's eyes have been described as violet-colored. I've never seen her in person, so this is unverified.

It is if the owner of the eyes has certain forms of albinism. Though that's probably not what people mean.

I do still think they're allowed to mean the poetic license applied to Liz Taylor, but then I've been fortunate not to have seen it overused the way many people seem to have. *shrug*
