Pictures: Knitting projects

I have continued to knit, loving my hobby as much as ever! Here are a few of my latest projects.

Ernie

This is the scarf I made for Serena's birthday. She loves orange, so I thought she'd like this!

Ernie

I used size 15 needles. The yarn is worsted weight variegated yarn knitted with novelty yarn that has little squares of "felt" every inch or so.

Rosy

I made Rosy for Amelia's birthday. It's made of a soft acrylic/mohair/polyester blend. I gathered a section toward the bottom with a piece of the same yarn in a different color. I ended up not liking the look and took out the contrasting yarn before giving the scarf to her (but I forgot to take a picture of the scarf sans the tie. Oops).

Rosy

Rosy was made on size 15 needles and is about 4 feet long.

Samantha

Samantha is a combination of two yarns: Moda Dea's Ricochet (variegated), and the lavendar fuzz is $1 novelty yarn from Target. It's a great, soft combination!

Samantha was knit for Bethany's birthday.

Samantha

Samantha was knit on size 13 needles and is about 5 1/2 feet long. I did a drop-stitch on every third row. I like the look that gave it.

Marilyn

Here is a fun boa-type scarf for Tessa's Christmas present. I'm not positive, but I believe I used size 15 needles.

Marilyn

A close up. Very silky and soft. :-)

First shawl

After seeing a lacy shawl on display at a local craft store, I decided to try one of my own. I used two skeins of this unusual yarn to make this shawl.

First Shawl

The shawl was knit with an increase (yarn over) made twice on each row--one stitch from the beginning and end. This made for an elongated triangular shape for the shawl. I can wrap it over my shoulders and have enough to tie the shawl in the front. I can also let the ends hang free over my shoulders or pin them together in the front.

First shawl

I knit this first shawl on size 13 needles. I used long needles, yet I barely had enough room to complete the scarf. It was a tight squeeze!

First shawl

A close-up of the yarn. I used Fabu yarn, purchased at Craft Warehouse. It took two 72 meter balls to make the shawl. I started knitting at the point and ended up with around 130 stitches at the end.

Sandra

I made this second shawl for Serena's birthday. She loves this yarn because, with the tan and blue, it reminds her of the beach.

Sandra

I also knit it with Fabu yarn on size 13 needles.

Sandra

The bottom is curled under here because I'm stretching it a bit too far while holding it for the picture. The bottom does not normally curl while wearing it.

Sandra

Such a unique texture! This made it very difficult to knit with because all the little "lumps" kept catching on each other while knitting. Plus, the yarn isn't stretchy at all. However, it was all worth it in the end. :-)

Cameron

My friend Amelia crochetted me a sheep for my birthday. I LOVE my sheep! I asked her sister for the pattern (it is a knit pattern, but Amelia had modified it for crochet), and I knit my very own sheep.

This sheep, Cameron, was given to baby Naomi, born just a few weeks ago.

Cameron

Cameron was knit with Wool Ease Thick & Quick super bulky yarn on size 17 needles. When I knit another sheep, I will use smaller needles, as size 17s left too big of holes. To make it baby safe (so the baby can't pull the stuffing out), my mom sewed an inner lining between the yarn outer layer and the stuffing on the body of the sheep.

The pattern calls for size 13 needles and bulky yarn. Next time, if I use super bulky yarn again, I will likely try size 15 needles instead.

This sheep was actually very easy to make, and it is made on all straight needles of the same size.

Shawl Three

I made this shawl, larger than my first two, with Angel Hair yarn from Joann fabric/craft store. I LOVE the soft feel! Angel Hair is a dream to work with.

I tied the shawl in front with a satin cord. The cord is moveable, so I can secure the front at any height I want. I can also wear it pinned in front, tied, or loose.

Shawl Three

I knit it on size 15 long needles. I ended with 144 stitches, which were VERY crowded on the needle (basically, I knit as many stitches as I could possibly fit onto the needle).

Currently, I am knitting another shawl on circular needles (knitting straight on them). I think the extra room on the circulars will make knitting this fourth shawl easier.

Shawl Three

Angel Hair is soooooo soft!

As always, I would be happy to knit something for you. My prices are reasonable for handknit goods, and I can work with you to create a project you'll love. :-) I am skilled at making hats (many styles), scarves, shawls, and now even...sheep! I also can make head handkerchiefs (with ties), purses, bags, and more. If you have something in mind, just ask. I'm always up for a challenge. :-)
