Daenerys Targaryen | A Song of Ice and Fire thedragonsblood November 18 2011, 01:11:48 UTC
There's a placard on the table Daenerys stands behind with her name on it (with the title Princess of Dragonstone underneath that) and a starting bid number of 100, but a currency isn't mentioned anywhere. She's still convinced that this is some sort of great misunderstanding, but when they told her that all profits were going towards a charitable cause... well, that reeled her in. Dany does have a soft spot in her heart for helping the downtrodden, after all, so while she may not particularly like this, she endures it with grace and serenity - even if it's feigned.

It surprises Spain to see Daenerys being auctioned off. You just don't auction off royalty after all, but then there she is. Mark it as a sign of how fond and protective he is of her, though he has only known her for a short while, that he immediately bids high.

"1,000 golden pieces."

Dany is just as surprised to see Antonio bidding on her as he is to see her here. She's thankful for his bid, because not only does it mean he may very well win, but it also means that he thinks enough of her to want to in the first place.

Still, nonetheless, she's not going to let him know that right now. "Is that all?"

The question makes him raise an eyebrow, though an amused smile plays on his lips. The Empire leans closer then, resting a bit of his weight over the table, as he smiles towards the Queen on auction. That smile still holds that amusement along with some infuriating playfulness.

"What is it exactly that I get if I bid more gold on you, Reina?" Of course he'll continue on bidding on her no matter what the prize may be, though of course knowing what he is bidding for upfront is always good. Besides, Daenerys is being queenly and he always likes her when she is.

The young Targaryen keeps her poise even in the face of his teasing. She doesn't miss the more off-color intentions of the question, even though she pretends not to.

"That depends on what you would want," she answers simply with a cool, nonchalant shrug of one slender shoulder.

Spain's entire countenance doesn't change, even as he gets such cool, unaffected words back. He's used to these kinds of exchanges, being in the thick of court life as he is and having to deal with people with such perfect poker faces. It can even be said that Spain's usual smiling face is a poker face, should you take the time to think about it. It takes a lot for him to look anything other than calm and cheerful.

"Hmm, what I would want..." There are a lot of things that the Empire wants that could involve Daenerys, should she be amenable to him.

Oblivious to his thoughts, of course, Dany chews the inside of his cheek for a moment, judging his demeanor, looking for chinks in his armor to pick at. It's not wonder she can't find any so easily though, not even to herself, despite how much it momentarily vexes her. She knows what she is, what she was born to be, but at the same time, Antonio has no doubt been playing this game longer than she has. She senses wisdom in him that's been cultivated over many years, even if she can't quite understand why, given his youthful appearance.

"You should choose carefully and thoughtfully." Finally, she decides on a slightly coyer tone for her own round of returned teasing. "You may not receive another opportunity like this, Antonio."

Her cool, coy answer makes Spain focus on her once more and laugh softly. It's not a laugh of mockery, merely a laugh of amusement. Green eyes dance as he looks to her as he finally looks decided. Spain's plans for the prize of this auction is simple enough, really.

He rests a gloved hand over the table before Daenerys as he leans forward, holding her eyes with a smiling gaze, "Dinner, perhaps a gondola ride in Venice and your story, mi reina bella." He tilts his head a little to the side, the gesture causing him to look younger than usual. "Are my plans to your liking?"

The proposition is so surprisingly romantic in nature that Daenerys is visibly at a loss for words - a fact which irritates her in a minor way because she didn't think that developing an expectation for him to merely want physical pleasure from her as a potential weakness. She almost wants to ask him why on earth he feels the need to waste his time with such pointless courting, but she thinks better of it a split second before the words are out of her mouth. She's curious to see what his ploy is, exactly, her paranoia twisting his innocent dating idea.

"...What is Venice?"

He's happy enough to answer her question, "A beautiful and unique city near my own country. It's known as The Floating City as it is practically surrounded by water. People tend to use boats, the gondola, to get around."

A political animal he may be at times, but right now he doesn't have any political or underhanded motives. His intentions are quite innocent. Daenerys has gained his interest and he merely wants to know more about her. He won't say 'no' to another opportunity to share her bed, but getting to know her beyond how she looks naked is also an opportunity that he won't let pass if it's possible.

Romantic indeed. Dany can't deny that it does sound beautiful and she is intrigued, but at the same time, she hesitates appearing particularly excited about it. She hasn't quite learned to trust Antonio yet and he's been rather kind to her, despite that she means nothing to him politically or even personally, really. Viserys would have said that he recognizes true royalty that deserves nothing but his utmost respect and loyalty when he sees it, but Dany has never been quite as trusting as her brother was.

"Then that is what you will have," she answers slowly. "If you win."

And Daenerys gets a bright smile back as he rises to step away, his movements smooth and easy. "I look forward to winning then." He tells her with a bit of a wink, quite confident that he'll win this auction and get to spend some more time with the regal Dragon Queen.

Spain steps back then and waits for any challengers to his bid. It may be true that his finances are currently in a precarious situation, but they're not bad enough that he'll let this opportunity slip.
