Away at War/Battle MemeWe all know war can be a hard time for everyone but those left behind? It can be torture. Hoping you get a letter or a call, staying glued to the television and cringing at those news stories. Guess what happens to you now? Your loved one has gone off to fight a war (battle, fight, in that ilk of things) and some time has ( Read more... )

*Jensen had probably come in some time during the night, he was getting better about the window, coming and going without disturbing Blaine too much. But despite that he'd been there for awhile, he hadn't really slept even if he is all wrapped up in a blanket*

Hey. What's up? Did I miss much?

*A small smile and he curls up under the blanket on the floor a little more*

Sounds nice. The holidays are coming already? That was fast. *He'd totally lost track of time, everything just blurred together. But then that was a different world than it was at home.*

Yeah. *Briefly. From the street in an unmarked van with Pooch at the wheel and then they left after he was sure they were okay. They needed downtime. Clay said he needed more of it than anyone else and here he was down on the floor of Blaine's room where he felt the safest. Downtime.*

Yeah, it's cool. Beth--her name is Beth. My niece.

She'd been informed that he was back almost as soon as his plane had touched down on American soil, but after that it had been almost two days before she got any other news as to what had happened, and by then he'd already been in and out of surgery, though still in intensive care with a strict 'no visitors' restriction until they were sure he was stable.

Which meant that Krystle had been pacing the waiting room for the past 12 hours, give or take. She'd even nodded off on one of the uncomfortable couches for a few hours, even despite the three cups of vending machine coffee she'd had to keep herself going. Finally though, an attendant came to get her to show her to Jensen's room.

[ooc: You pick the injury, and whether Krystle's a s/o or a siblingperson, I'm good with either!]

(ooc: ooooooh the drama times :D Hmm.. what about a sibling? I love sibling dynamics, I feel like I don't get to play them enough! <3 ...god this makes me feel like an evil mun--I'm sorry, buddy.)There's a doctor at some point who met with her at some point down the hall to give her the low-down with terms like anti-personnel mine (He wasn't that close, they told me, the others didn't make it--he's very lucky), burns, concussion, internal bleeding, above-the-knee amputation. Amputation. They tried to save it, the doctor said, they hadn't gotten to him right away, the damage was already done. He'll be moved out of the ICU by tomorrow at the earliest ( ... )

Krystle just nodded, absorbing what she was being told, she could understand it in an abstract kind of way, amputation, missing limbs, some small back corner of her mind wanted to crack a joke about Ahab, but it didn't quite surface.

Seeing it was something else entirely. She'd always had a strong stomach, the two of them watched horror movies the same way most people watched crappy comedies and it never even phased her, she could even cheerfully eat a cheeseburger while watching zombie movies.
This was different. So much different.

There was a chair already beside the bed, on the left side, she noticed, granted, it was because most of the equipment was on the right side, which made sense. A half-hysterical giggle bubbled up in her chest, but she bit it down, dropping into the chair and dragging both hands through her hair before blinking up at the doctor, "Thank you." One hand inched across the blanket then, fingers curling around Jensen's wrist, "Hey Jakey."

He was still pretty slow to wake up, a lot of it being the drugs they were pumping into him and just everything he'd been through recently. From the looks of it, it had been a lot. He opened his eyes though at the touch and his name, squinting at the room and his lack of glasses. Fucking blind without them.

"Krystle?" he whispered. "Hey. M'ready to go home."

"Yeah." She said, keeping her voice quiet, she could only imagine he had a headache on top of everything else, she had when she'd had her appendix out, and somehow that had just made it all worse, "And soon, still in the ICU. Gotta get you to a regular room first. After that we can worry about home." She said, managing a smile even if it was shaky and she knew he couldn't see it anyway, not without his glasses.

"Missed you. Besides glasses, what do you want me to bring from home?" Start with the normal, work up to the bad news. She could do that.

"Missed you too." He squeezed her hand, concentrating on that for a little while and hoping it would wake him up some. It was some kind of drugged twilight haze, feeling like he was between being awake and sleeping, where there was still light and pain too. Jensen didn't like it so much--his thoughts weren't racing around like he was used to.

Yeah. Yeah, that he needed. Actually he wanted home more than anything, to be so close and stuck here was just as painful. "Okay. Cheeseburger. Its required." That took; the last cheeseburger had been forever ago.

There was a soft laugh at that, just a little brittle, but it was a start, "Okay. Glasses and cheeseburger, I can do that." Her head dropped forward then, dragging her free hand through her hair again, "You been awake enough for anybody to tell you what happened?"

She hoped so, really, she wasn't sure she could be the one to break the news.

Cheeseburgers were a priority, he'd made that decision long ago. Besides, he knew what kind of hospital food was in store and that was not something to look forward to at all.

Jensen blinked, moving his head to face her more and trying to shake off the sleepy fog. He had to wake up more, important subjects were happening. "No," he said at last. "Just that.. home." No one had wanted to have that conversation either and if he remembered anything from the blast, it wasn't surfacing. He was much too out of it to discover for himself.

No worries! omggirlonthenet November 22 2011, 19:06:31 UTC
She nodded, and something about the situation apparently dissolved her 'good sense' filter, because what she said was: "Well, when I drag you off to the Renn Faire this year you'll make a great Ahab." She buried her face in her hands a moment later, "That was terrible, I'm sorry! People shouldn't let me break news like this, I'm not good at it."
