Reception~ proteuspaladin November 24 2011, 12:45:16 UTC
The wedding was... beautiful. Not even Cecil could - let alone would - deny what a touching and visually stunning ceremony it was. Kain was truly, utterly happy and that was what she had always wanted for him, above all things. At the same time though, regardless of how hard-pressed to admit it she would be, it was painful to sit through watching the other best friend she probably would have been married off to, were Baron still mired so thickly in its old and outdated traditions, tie the knot with a man she too had grown to care deeply for, in a different manner from how she loved Kain and Rosa. She wondered briefly if it was this hard for Kain to spend all those years watching her and Rosa grow closer. How cruel and cold they must have seemed to him ( ... )

Weddings have never really been her thing. Prussia has always tried to stay away from anything involving marriage, but there are really just some cases that cannot be avoided. Like this one. It's a very special day in one of her best friends' lives and she'll be there, no matter what it takes. Besides, Spain assured her that the drinks would be great and she doesn't even have to wear a floofy dress if she doesn't want to ( ... )

Cecil snaps her head up when she hears someone addressing her, the look on her fair features speaking clearly of how startled she was. She recognizes the silver-haired woman immediately though as Prussia, Julia Beilschmidt, and a good friend of Spain's, so she immediately schools her expression into a happy, friendly one and prompts herself to answer the woman nation.

"Ah... I believe so, but they left to dance now that dinner has concluded, so..." the paladin queen trails off awkwardly, shrugging one of her shoulders. She did have to wear a floofy dress, unlike Prussia, though, admittedly, it's not as floofy as it could have been.

"Then I'll move when they're back." The Prussian concludes with a grin before settling down over the empty seat with casual grace. The seat has a good view of the dance floor and it's easy enough to spy the happy newly-married couple, given Kain's towering height and Spain's distinct coloring. They move slowly, Spain accommodating Kain's more reserved movements, but the Iberian Nation doesn't seem to object to it at all. Eyes bright, lips parted in his usual cheerful smile, Spain glows and Prussia sighs wistfully at the sight.

"He's so happy." She remarks, a small smirkish smile playing along her lips as she continues to watch. Violet eyes drift up to Kain who doesn't smile as much as his new husband, but the fact that he has consented to taking a couple of turns around the dance floor is telling enough. The dragoon doesn't seem to be the dancing type. "They both are. Aren't they?" She asks, tilting her head a little to her present company.

Again, it stings a little, but Cecil follows the other woman's gaze to the newlyweds. She nods and sighs too, though she isn't quite as skilled at hiding the tint of sadness she involuntarily gives it and her ensuing words.

"I have not seen Kain this happy since we were children," she agrees. "He's been through a lot. I suppose they both have."

Cecil has known Kain well enough for long enough to be able to sense the differing moods of his attitude, but despite her ability to, she doesn't need to pay so close attention anymore; Kain, in a rare stroke of emotional candidness, told her himself in plain, raw speech that he was happy with Spain. There was little point in questioning his certainty regarding the marriage; Kain does not discuss feelings unless it is very, very important, and even then, he's been known to neglect such conversations on occasion.

"They have, yeah."

It's very obvious how happy Spain is with Kain. While already quite bright and cheerful most of the time, he just seems to glow even more whenever his dragoon is by his side. It makes Prussia happy to see how Kain makes Spain happy. The Iberian Nation deserves it after centuries of yearning and dreaming of a deep and true love and he's finally been blessed with it.

Prussia turns her attention to the woman beside her. "I don't think we've been formally introduced." She lifts a gloved hand. "Preußen. Prussia. Julia Beilschmidt."

At the mention of introductions, the other woman's long past of formal etiquette kicks in and she nods, taking the gloved hand with her own to shake firmly. She meets Prussia's eyes and sheds all traces of her lackluster mood in order to exude the confidence and command she doesn't feel at all right now. She is queen, after all, and her behavior reflects on all of her kingdom at all times.

"Queen Cecil Harvey of the Kingdom of Baron," she announces herself with more of the pride she knows she should say her name with. "You are a good friend of Spain's, are you not? I do recall hearing about you from time to time, Prussia."

She watches Cecil, Queen Cecil Harvey of the Kingdom of Baron, appear before her eyes, effortlessly slipping on a mantle of pride, dignity and royalty and Prussia has to say she's impressed. It's obvious in the way her smile slips into something more resembling of a smirkish grin that showcases her approval. She shakes the Queen's hand firmly, not to fall short of her own confidence as a Nation.

"They're good things, I hope?" She says with a touch of jest to her tone. "Spanien has also talked quite a great deal of you, Queen Cecil. It's good to finally meet your acquaintance."

"Yes, good things," she assures the other woman with a nod and a small smile as she withdraws her own gloved hand. She doesn't know what to say about the apparent equally good stories Spain has told Prussia of her, so she ignores the comment. "He's told me you and France are his best friends. He's very fond of you both. I'm glad to be meeting you at last as well. I regret that we haven't been introduced sooner."

To be completely honest with himself, Cecil isn't entirely sure that what he's doing is the right thing. In truth, he's only agreed to have come this far because it seems to be the right move for Baron, politically. However, in his heart, marrying a woman he is not in love with - indeed, a woman he's never even met before - is an act that's so dishonest, it's disgraceful and it makes him disgraceful as a paladin. The nobility who vote on these manner of things in order for him, the king, to be efficiently counseled on a matter, though, insist that this is how protecting his homeland is best done and so he does it, without much question and definitely without a word of protest.

He's still extremely nervous though as the ceremony begins and Cecil deeply believes he's going to be sick right there at the altar before the wedding party starts to descend the aisle to their respective seats. The paladin king has to bite the inside of his cheek hard to keep his nerves at bay, but he manages, even if just barely so.

(ooc: And I am sorry for this sudden TL;DR and seriousness OTL)Prussia is not a Nation anymore. Her territory has been taken in by others, same thing with her people. It's been slow in coming, this descent to dissolution, and Prussia herself has worked hard to delay it as much as she could. She has supported Germany in all ways possible, using all manner of military skill and espionage in her power in service of this growing empire, but in the end it just isn't enough. She looses everything and yet here she is, still breathing, still existing ( ... )

It still baffles Cecil that he is to meet his future wife literally seconds before their marriage is final, even as he watches her process down the aisle after the party have taken their places. Why they could not make time to become, at the very least, acquainted with each other before this weighs him down with guilt, honestly; he can't help wondering if his bride sees him as her cruel enemy, regardless of how much his white formal armor shines beneath the blue and gold hues of his royal, silk mantle. He suffers no illusion that she doesn't feel the same way as he about this entire affair. The fact that she too was willing to sacrifice a future of her own choosing for a truce earns her more respect from the white king than he can fully explain in words. Defeat or no, that signifies strength as far as he is convinced and that is likely because he knows virtually nothing of what she truly was before she became his betrothed ( ... )

The Mysidian Elder clears his throat quietly to get Cecil's attention and the paladin ruler turns back to him for the proceedings. He can't tell if the palpable tension in the air between him and his bride is real or imagined though and he continues to glance at her throughout the ceremony. As they sit and rise over and over throughout it, Cecil only just manages to follow along with what's happening, distracted from fully focusing because he's contemplating how best to apologize to the woman beside him for this unfair turn of events ( ... )

The ceremony proceeds smoothly, Prussia able to go through the motions without any problems. She has been informed beforehand of what would transpire and thankfully she makes no mistakes. Along with the orientation about the ceremony, she has also been reminded of the severity of her duty to make sure everything is done flawlessly. She is not to make a spectacle of herself and an embarrassment of Germany. They all remember well how she can easily stir up trouble. There will be no place for her usual shenanigans in this ceremony and she best remember that ( ... )
