Under the tree was a neat little box with a white box. Inside was a pair of black thigh high nylon stockings.

She came home and eyed the box under the small tree they'd put up in the apartment, but didn't say anything. They had decided to forgo presents this year in lieu of their trip (and the fact that he'd just bought her a seriously expensive ring). Of course, she knew he wouldn't be able to not get her at least something, just the same as she hadn't been able to resist getting him a little something either.

She went to the bottom of her sweater drawer and pulled out a small, neatly-wrapped box and put it under the tree next to the other. Inside were two sterling silver custom-made cufflinks.

Arthur walked by the tree to get something from the bedroom before he was stopped in his tracks by the sight of the new present under the tree.

Ari was just innocently sitting on the couch reading a book. She doesn't even look up when he stops.

Squatting down, Arthur grabbed the present and got Ariadne’s attention. “Is this for me?”

"I don't know. Is that for me?" she asked, indicating to the other box with an eyebrow raise.

“Yes, it is,” he answered with a smile before setting the gift down by the other. “We’re really bad at sticking to rules.”

"What do you expect? We're criminals," she said with a shrug.

Arthur huffed out a laugh. "I suppose you're right."

She grinned and put her book down in her lap.

"So when are we going to open them?" she asked.

"I don't know," he replied. "Are they something we want to bring on the trip?"

Ari thought about that for a moment.

"Well, I'm not sure if you would bring this on the trip," she said, thinking that he might not have the occasion to dress up if they were on an island by themselves. Although he would probably wear suits again once they got to the States.

"I guess the real question is how long can you wait to know what it is?"

"I can wait, the really questions is if you can wait for my gift."

"Well, considering I'm already wearing the only gift I really need for the next....long time," she said as she moved her hand to watch her ring sparkle in the lights of the Christmas tree. "I can wait.

"But...I don't think I can wait to see you open yours."

She smiled.

“Alright, alright.” He grabbed his gift, but before he stood up, he grabbed the gift for her as well and went to sit on the couch. “Here.”
