That's good. [ No big deal. He presses a kiss to the top of Charlie's head before gently taking the baby from her. He hasn't seen his daughter in a whole day, he really wants to hold her, okay? ]
[Yes. Hold the small one. Charlie's kind of dead on her feet, anyway. She settles onto the couch, watching her two favorite people in the entire world.] So, I finally managed to capture video of her smiling. It only took me two weeks. I have yet to get it off my camera, though.
[ Rhodey'll just sort of stand here, swaying on his feet for a little, back and forth, until he's sure that the little one hasn't woken and won't wake. Then, he settles next to Charlie. ]
Yeah? That's cool. I can do it later. You look tired.
Like a buzz-saw. [See that? That's Charlie smirking because she's teasing. There's a brief kiss on his cheek before she rests her head on his shoulder again, watching the baby.]
That and I think she's figuring out that she and I really are two separate people. I don't think she likes that, too much.
I can only imagine. [ Which is a little sad, because by the time he gets home the baby is usually already asleep and, well. Sometimes he doesn't come home for days, and he already feels like maybe he's missing her grow up. ]
[That's why Charlie has pictures of Rhodey everywhere. In uniform. In civilian attire. In the War Machine suit. For the sake of the kiddo. Plus it's actually a scary thought, having words with Fury about this very thing.]
I missed you, by the way. Thought you'd want to know.
[The baby opens her eyes and even tries sitting up slightly, all eyes for her dad, who she's very excited to see if the noises she's making are any indication. Charlie very carefully reaches for the camera on the coffee table, leaning back to get a picture.]
[ Yeah, go ahead, take a picture or whatever, Rhodey is busy making cooing noises at the baby that he would not admit to making under threat of death usually. ]
[You are a wise man for letting her, Rhodey. The baby is just wriggling, so excited to see Rhodey. And then her head is tucking back under his chin because that's the best she can do at the moment.]
That was the coolest thing she's done all day.
[And Charlie usually thinks everything Baby Girl does is cool.]

[Because she's an insomniac. Most nights.] I am a bit. She's kept me on my toes today.

Well, no. Not really. He's too busy smiling at his daughter. ] The gas, huh?
