Charles woke up earlier than Erik that day. Not wanting to wake Erik, he slipped himself from the bed to his chair with practiced ease. He decided to remain in his pajamas and make a trip to the kitchen so he could start the coffee. He would call someone down to make breakfast for them so that the two of them could eat in peace before the children started to wake up for the day.

"Don't get used to it," Charles warned with a slight hum and some teasing in his voice. Of course, Erik already knew that Charles stayed up later than many, so being the first awake was impossible for him. He also didn't have any problems getting into a deep sleep. He poured two cups of coffee and held one towards Erik.

"No, not a thing," Charles said, looking cheerful as he sipped carefully at his coffee. "Must be a rare morning of naturally waking up earlier than I'm used to." He knew it meant he would be asleep at his desk that night.
