"Oh, John," she whispers tearfully, her eyes going from his face to the box in his hands. Mary quickly wipes at her own cheeks, nodding her head vigorously. It's soon, yes, but she would be crazy not to say yes to this man, not when he looks so earnest and lovely and perfect kneeling there before here.
John wasn't expecting her to say no, he knew Mary better than that. Yet he still thought she wouldn't say yes. It was just a little bit of doubt he caused in himself. But when she says yes he breaks out into a huge grin and pulls the ring free of it's box so he can push it onto her finger.
"Mary!" He stands when he has the ring on her finger and kisses her soundly.
Mary has to let out a happy laugh against his lips as she wraps her arms around him, nearly swooning in his arms. Thankfully, she remains upright, one hand on his cheek while she smiles down at the ring on her finger.
"I'm going to spend the rest of my days with you. I think I'd felt something when we first me."
John puts his arms around her in a hugging fashion but loose enough that she can move still. He presses a soft kiss to her cheek as he looks at her hand as well. He's never felt happier.
"I couldn't think of anyone I would rather spend my days with." John, the hopeless romantic, tells her softly.
Mary laughs each time her words are interrupted with another smooch, and another, and another. She lightly taps his nose, speaking shyly, "Your - your family, perhaps? If you want." Since I have none, she doesn't add.
John can't help but pull her close, hugging her. "Okay. Harry and my dad." He nods even though they aren't the people he feels like he has a family with. He wants to tell people like Mrs. Hudson, Lestrade...Sherlock. He quickly pushes that thought away. "I'll rings Harry. See if she's in a good enough state for you to meet her."
"Oh, I'd love to! And then we'll tell all our friends!" she exclaims, her nose wrinkling as she laughs again, resting her head against his chest, giving him a squeeze.
"Mrs. Hudson will just be beside herself, won't she?"
"I'm excited." John was. He couldn't help but be happy that he was going to marry the most beautiful woman in the world. Time to rub it in all his mates faces.
"Oh yes, she will." And then she'll be asking about kids and when Mary and John planed on having them.
