That was because by the time he got through a few pages he got itchy feet and didn't want to sit still. Peace and quiet could be nice, Doctor. Cakes, tea and reading by the fire. Perfect!
"Couldn't we go 'round the village? Try and keep off the radar a bit?"
"We can try that, yeah. Just... it's going to be a long walk. I mean long." Because if they wanted to try and avoid the routes most covered it might be an all day event, sadly.
But it was worth the try rather than walking right into the middle of things like they had to get them in such a position.
"I'll take the long walk over prison." Even if her legs ached and she was grimy and hungry and thirsty. A long walk back to the TARDIS still seemed more appealing than a trip back to a dirty, dingy cell.
Walk, walk, stumble, fall, walk, trip, walk, walk. And finally they reached the edge of town on the opposite end of where they were at. "I think we'll be alright, but we might get a few stares." His legs and shoes were covered in mud, as well as his jacket from when Donna slipped in mud and tried to grab him before she fell, but it was too late.
Donna was completely covered in mud. She felt absolutely disgusting. The TARDIS better be preparing a lifetime's supply of hot water ready for when they get back.
"We always attract stares." She slipped a muddy hand into his. "Let's just try to avoid being arrested. Again."
"Oh I don't know, I'm sure the food might've been nice!" He grinned as they slipped through another alley and as they walked to the end, the Doctor quickly threw an arm across her chest, pressing her slightly behind him against the wall.
Two officers walked right past them and stepped into the adjacent alley from them. "They're looking for us, I bet." He whispered, eyes still fixed to where they walked past. "We need to hide." And without saying another word, he soniced into the back door to the building and stepped in.
"Ohhh, don't I?" He winked at Donna as they pushed inside. The building must've been contracted to various buisness suites, well at least at one time it had. Now it looked suddenly abandoned as if they literally stood up and never came back. "Kind of depressing."
"I bet this place looked amazing in it's prime. I mean, look at the architecture, the intricate detailing, well, what's left of it." Yes, those words came out of Donna Noble's mouth!
"Yes, one day ago, many years ago now..." He commented as they walked through the hallway, listening to the floorboards creak under their weight. The wall paper was all ripping off the walls, and surly there was mold everywhere as well.
"C'mon, we got a-ways to go." They roamed around until they found the front building. The Doctor peeked through the dusty glass. "I don't think I see anything stopping us now..."
"It shouldn't be too much further." He looked around then they stayed within the alleys making their way through town until they found the TARDIS surrounded by what appeared to be the drug traffickers.
"Oh well that's just wizard. There are times when I could kill you Doctor." This was one of those times. Her shower seemed so far away and she was so grimy and hardly the most fragrant of people to be around.
"So, come on then. What now? Slap 'em all? Distract 'em? Leg it and hope we can get in the door before they notice us?"

"So, detour through crumbling buildings? You know how to show a girl a good time!"

"We risking legging it then?" She could almost taste the sweetness of freedom!

They were casual about their escape, but made sure to linger in the alleyways and shadows further.

"How much further?"

"Well, this makes things more complicated."
