I don't think I'll mind that in the least. [Really, it's been so long since anyone flattered her or flirted with her.]

Besides computers? I do whatever needs to be done, but I like computers, machines. Technology. It's what I'm good at.

[She still prefers the hum of a machine to the chatter of a crowded cafe. But she's learning to be social. Slowly.]

We've had so much progress in so little time. It's amazing.

[She grinned at him. This wasn't the first time she'd heard that, and it wouldn't be the last.]

Does that mean you've got more inventions up your sleeve?

I think you're right about that. We're connected, for better or worse, and that includes inventions, technology, scientific breakthroughs. What one person discovers, another person on another continent can continue, in theory.

Actually, I'm working on a language translation program. Which might sound boring, until you realize it's alien to English.

There is something else, though...

A time bubble, to put it simply. We're in a dangerous line of work, and bad things are always happening. It's not complete yet, and even when it is, it would be a last resort. Completely localized, and nobody would even know.

[The tiniest of shivers and it's obvious she's happy with the idea. She's liking him more and more, really. Nobody, not even Mary, fully appreciated her intellect, and she loves that she's met someone who does.]
