(ooc: and oddly fitting since I played out the choosing with Thor the other day...)

[Natasha pulled Clint out of the gathering of agents, wanting to catch him before they were once again separated by missions. She flashed him a crooked smile before ducking her head and silently holding out a box that contained a phoenix pendant on a leather thong. She'd been wanting to get him something, something that somehow managed to encapsulate how she felt as well as something that stood for both of them and with Thor's help she'd managed to find it. At least she hoped she had. There was the tiniest part of her that waited for the archer to laugh at the ridiculous gesture. They didn't do gifts, not like everyone else but just this once she was breaking the rules.]

with pleasure. also, this is perfect. blindshooting May 7 2012, 07:13:02 UTC
What's up?

[Clint shoved his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket. Frankly, he was glad Natasha took him out of the situation; he hated answering questions about Manhattan to overly curious agents who didn't have the pleasure of being there. Crowded rooms made him feel uncomfortable as it was. He hadn't had too much time to chat with Natasha after everything and he was glad he now had the distraction]

Just take it, Barton. Don't leave a girl hanging.

[She waved the box in front of him before offering it to him again, trying to get the archer to take it. Her eyes flicked for a moment to make sure they were alone in the corridor.]

I got you something...

Really? It's not my birthday.

[Clint grinned, joking. He took the box and slowly opened it. He glanced at Natasha and removed the lid. Inside was a pendant. Carefully he took it from the box to observe it closer in the light. He ran his thumb over it and the leather thong felt good in his hand. Slowly, a big smile spread on his face. He slipped it over his head and the pendant settled nicely on his chest]

It's... It's perfect. Really.

[God Clint was bad with thank yous]

[Nerves were never something she'd admit to ever feeling, but even Natasha was shifting her weight restlessly as she bit the inside of her cheek and watched for his reaction.

When she saw the smile, and the way he just slipped it over his neck without even complaining, Natasha felt a wide smile of her own spread across her features.]

Really? I wasn't--I didn't really know. I had some help.

[A rush of air escaped and for a moment she nearly made the mistake of moving in to kiss him, but another agent was coming down the hall and she balled her hands up into fists instead.]

Yeah. It's perfect. And as corny as it sounds, this way I can always carry you wherever I'm going.

[Making sure there were on incoming steps, he closed the distance between them with a few fast paced steps and pressed a quick, haste kiss on her lips. He then backed off a little with the same wide smile on his face, a few wrinkles appearing next to his eyes every time he smiled with his entire being. He touched the pendant; it was starting to warm up against his body heat]

Don't tell me Stark helped you pick this up. He doesn't have a style this good.

That's kind of what I was going for, so I'll let you get away with being corny.

[She licked her lips in the wake of the kiss before flashing him another smile. The expression transformed her entire face, like the spy was finally letting go of something heavy. Letting herself be happy. It was just as nice seeing Clint smile though, especially when it reached his eyes.]

I'd shoot myself before letting him even know I want to buy you something, let alone help. It was actually Thor. I was helping him buy underwear. Gave me the excuse I needed to go shopping.

Well, Thor always looked to be a man of style.

[Clint grinned. He was happy Natasha had a chance to do something normal and bond with Thor meanwhile doing that. Their lives were a big mess of injuries, missions, saving the world and weird unearthy stuff, they never really had the chance to do normal things like go shopping or to the cinema or grab takeout food and watch TV on the sofa]

I really love it, Tasha. [He chickened out. He wanted to say he loved her, but love didn't quite cover the way he felt for her, the gratitude and understanding and respect]

He's a little more than a man, but yes. And now he'll be a comfortable man.

[She had to laugh, still remembering the conversation that had even led her to take the Asgardian shopping. But it was true, it had been a nice time-out. An excuse to see if she was capable of bonding with the god, and do something normal. Buying something for Clint had been at the back of her mind for a while and now it was done. Now she had given him a token of her affection, though even affection didn't seem a deep enough word.]

I'm glad you do. I really am. [Her gaze dropped to where it sat against his chest and she could feel herself chickening out too. Three words that were made to go along with the gift and she couldn't even say them.] It looks good on you.

It does. Maybe it's a good luck charm that will prevent me from any new injuries.

[Clint grinned, but there was something unspoken in the air. This - what they had with Natasha - was something to hold on to. Something that made him stay alive and come back even more than before. Whenever he was in trouble, all he had to do was to look down at the pendant and remember what and who he was surviving for.

The three words were still caught up in his throat, but he swallowed them down. Coward, something said inside him.]

Or at least injuries from anyone else but me.

[She grinned back at him, her tongue flicking over her lips before she shook her head slightly. She was still in disbelief that they had finally evolved into something more, but it was hard to fight the way she seemed to warm at the idea of it. She touched the pendant briefly, fingertip tapping against the phoenix.

They had both risen from metaphorical ashes. They both had so much invested in keeping the other alive. And they were both just as stunted when it came to not being able to say 'I love you'.]

Oh you'd never hurt me, unless it's to bang a god out of me.

[Clint chuckled, slipping a hand on the small over he back, still making sure they were alone. The isle was isolated and not used very often, so they did have some privacy. Clint knew how many curious eyes the ship had, including Stark who didn't seem to be able to keep his nose out of anything.

Clint hoped his actions could show how much he loved her, when he was incapable of saying the words. Maybe one day, when he'd gather enough courage.]

I hope I don't have to do it again any time soon.

[She laughed softly, instinctively moving closer when she felt his hand on her back. Natasha's gaze slipped past his shoulder and she grabbed his collar to move him backwards as one hand slid under his arm to catch the door handle behind them. She had been trying to remember what was on the other side until she remembered why the corridor wasn't used so often. This was a supply closet mostly for the janitors employed by SHIELD.

She was hoping her own actions would show the same, especially once the door was shut behind them and she gave into the kiss she could no longer resist the urge to give him. Her mouth closed over his, hands still holding his collar tightly as she poured all of her passion for him into the kiss.]

[Clint's hold of her was probably a little too tight, but he knew she wouldn't complain. He dove right into the kiss and it felt good to finally do this without hesitation. His hands traveled to the hem of her shirt and then under it, fingers running on the soft skin of her back.

He pressed her against the closer door and fumbled for the light switch with one hand, giving up when there seemed to be too much junk blocking it. He ran his tongue once softly over her lips, as if to test the ice]

[She really wasn't about to complain. There was an urgency and hunger building now that they did have some privacy to themselves and a lack of watchful eyes. She shivered slightly with his touch, his calloused fingers rasping against her skin in a way she'd only ever dreamed.

Her lips parted at the feel of his tongue, the tiniest of moans escaping as her fingers worked on the zipper to his jacket.]

[He slowly ran his tongue across her lips into her mouth, his stubble rough against her jaw. He shrugged his jacket on the floor, not caring if it got trampled. He started to lift up her top, and broke the kiss only to pull it over her head and toss it aside. He stopped to look at her for a brief second, but the hunger drove him back into the bruising kiss.

He buried his other hand in her hair, other still on her back]
