So here's the deal: The other day/week/month you were minding your own business outside somewhere when suddenly there was this freaky storm with hailstones the size of your kitchen sink slamming into things everywhere. Before you can get to safety (or maybe even after you get to 'safety') you fail your save vs storm and BAM lightning bolt to the face. Fortunately, in case you were worried, you survived unscathed.
You did not, however, survive completely unscathed. Although you might not have known it immediately, the storm somehow changed your DNA--yeah. You know where this is going. Recently, either for a few days or even a few months, you've had a special ability unlike anyone else. Do you ignore it? Reject it or even sell it? (Hint: the selling price is a rip off) Do you have fun with it? Do you become a hero? A villain? Whatever the case, be careful: you're not the only one with powers, and there's a distressing tendency of these things to cause fits of crazy.
Oh, right. If you thought you could get through this and pretend to be normal? You're wrong. Somehow you've been dragged to a certain community center that gets more trouble than Smallville on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday combined.
Scenarios
These can be taken AU, or they can be adjusted to fit canon universes instead (Different planets/time periods/terms/details!)
1. Officers For whatever reason while you're working on those abilities you've been given watch over a group of miscreants serving time helping out at this community center. From 9-5 it's your responsibility to make sure neither the young convicts nor whatever strange volunteers working at the building today manage to kill each other. Think that sounds easy? Right. Now try not to die while doing that.
2. Community Service Whatever you seriously just did, you're now assigned to 150 hours of community service cleaning up and helping around this community center. For some inane reason it is always filthy and yet packed with people trying to use it, so you'll never run out of things to do. It is also constantly bringing in psychotic monsters, so...yeah. There's nothing boring to worry about, either.
3. Volunteer Because you're a cheap idiot you've decided the run-down community center in the middle of town is just the best place ever to set up a get together of some sort. It doesn't matter what, maybe you're working on a good old fashioned square dance and too cheap to find a farm. Whatever the case, because you picked this place, instead of dedicating time to figuring out how to handle your super power, something is going to go wrong. Probably in the most bloody and horrifying way. When all the guests become zombies, do try and get out without being bitten!
4. Visting/etc So like, after getting this power you hear about this place where people are disappearing inside like heavily buttered popcorn on a big budget world premiere night. Clearly this warrants investigating, right? Maybe the place is cursed or something, or the workers are crazypants and blame other people! Whatever the case, it's time to go looking into it, maybe using those flashy powers you just inherited. Try not to be the next community center sacrifice!
Optionally the monster you'll have to deal with is:
1 - Zombies! Possibly not the infectious rotting type, but definitely masses of mindless people trying to convert and/or kill you. Can you stop them or find out who's causing it, or will you join them?
2 - Werewolf! Someone apparently got furry and hungry and now people are turning up dead more often than usual in the halls. You may be the only one who can stop it...or maybe you're just next on the menu.
3 - Psycho! So there's no monsters here, just a person with some kind of a grudge and a kink for killing people over it. Can you stop them before they stop you?
4 - Time! Some idiot has gone back and either changed things for the worse or broken time completely. What do you do to fix it? Can you go back and unscrew the universe, or can you find a way to fix things here?
5 - Crazy! Guess what? The problem today? It's you. Maybe you've become unstable, maybe there's just a sickness going around. Whatever the case, you're becoming a danger to yourself and others. Can you stop it or get help, or will you become a monster someone else has to stop?
6 - Accidents! As it turns out, it's no one's fault people are dying: it's just that someone can't get a grip on their new shiny power. Someone should help them. Like...now.
7 - Something! Something or another has gone wrong, people are dying, dogs and cats are living together, you'd better figure out how and why with the person you're with, or you'll probably be next.
Step One: Post a comment and choose an ability/power for your character. Here's the catch: The power is an outgrowth of what defines your character. Do they desire more than anything at all to go back and change something that they've done wrong or to know what others really think of them? Are they most terrified of growing old or dying? Have they been ignored or objectified to the point where they might as well have been? Their ability will be either an answer or a manifestation of that. If you need ideas, look
hereStep Two: Tag others either with your chosen ability or perhaps as just a normal person. Pick a scenario and what's going down.
Step Three: Either AU it up, or play around with the scenarios to work with the canon!
Step Four: Fun and Profit!
