the SECRET IDENTITY meme
you've had your reasons for hiding what you are, but those days are at an end.
to spare some suggestible folks the trouble of deciding who'll roll on a thread-by-thread basis (but you can still do that if you want, I'm not the boss of you), we'll say that the characters who post are about to find out the truth, and the characters who reply are the ones with the secret identities.
post with your character's name, canon and preferences in the subject line.
roll the RNG once to determine what your character is hiding (1-10), and then again to find out why the truth's coming out (1-10).
WHAT YOU'VE BEEN HIDING:
1. SUPERHERO: you fight crime with your superpowers, but that's not a 24-7 job. whether it's for privacy or security, you've been trying to lead a normal life too.
2. GIFTED: you have a special (or terrifying) ability, but you don't normally use it. who knows how different your life might be if you did? that's not something you've been willing to risk.
3. SPY: when your government needs you, you become a slick james bond-type motherfucker.
4. LAB RAT: you're on the run from some sciencey bastards who either made you or experimented on you.
5. CRIMINAL: you do bad things for a living. maybe this is only secret to keep the heat off, or maybe there's someone you care about, who you'd like to think well of you.
6. FUGITIVE: maybe you know too much, or maybe you pissed off some powerful people. either way, they're hunting you down.
7. WITNESS PROTECTION: you never asked for this identity, it was given to you for your own safety.
8. TIME TRAVELER: you're from the past. or the future. or an alternate version of the present, where something's very different.
9. PERSON OF SIGNIFICANCE: you could be the heir to the throne of a tiny european kingdom, or the world's wealthiest recluse. could be that a member of your family is famous. whatever it is, you wanted a life outside that.
10. CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE: what it says on the tin. pick from the other options or combine them.
WHY YOU'RE NO LONGER HIDING IT:
1. FOR LOVE: you're spewing cartoon hearts for this person, and at the risk of losing them, it's time to find out if they can love everything you are.
2. REVEALING MOMENT: if you have powers, you just used them to do something small. if you're on the run, you just had to leave someplace in a hurry. maybe you signed something with your old name. maybe you don't know how to make these new-fangled (or old fashioned) pants work. smooth, bro. but it might not be too late to talk your way out of this.
3. CAUGHT IN THE ACT: you had to use your powers to save someone. something like that. there's no possible excuse or explanation. maybe there's footage of you on the news, or maybe they walked in to see you dismantling your sniper rifle.
4. THREATENED: someone who knows everything just showed up, and they're going to expose you for what you are. if you don't tell the people you care about, someone else is gonna do it for you.
5. IT'S JUST TIME: not only do you not want to keep secrets from this person, you don't want to keep secrets from anyone. it's time to tell the world.
6. LOSING CONTROL: you're having trouble containing your powers or gifts today, or possibly having a belated reaction to that nerve gas from super spy island. maybe you've started to get your lies mixed up with the truth. whatever the case, your mask is slipping.
7. LEAVING: you have to confront your nemesis, or you accepted the most dangerous job of your career. maybe you need to return to your rightful place in time, or you've decided to give yourself up to the people chasing you. whatever's going on, it's very likely that you won't be coming back. someone deserves to know why they may never see you again.
8. NOT ALONE: guess what? the person you're about to run into has (more or less) the same problem you do. and you're going to realize that a lot sooner than you think.
9. THE WHOLE TRUTH: the person threading with you already knows your secret, and they've been helping you to hide or integrate. here's the catch: you haven't told them everything.
