Hopefully, if you're reading this, Lucifer is back in his Cage. With me. And chances are I'm not getting out. So I thought I'd write down everything I have to say to you while I can.
We didn't get off on the best foot. I know that. You had every right to resent me, call me an abomination, because I am. You've always been something so much better than me, something that shone so brightly when I couldn't. I used to pray, you know - I have no idea if you heard those prayers, or laughed at them. But you're the only angel I've met that felt like...who I used to pray to. If that makes any sense

[Castiel held the letter in his hands staring down at the small scratched writing that came from Sam Winchesters giant hands. These words... well honestly Castiel hadn't been expecting them. He probably should have never found this letter , but Cas did so past was in the past.
The words that Sam wrote... they were so sincere, and kind, and so very like him with his giant heart and his too good intentions. Sam must of known that Castiel had done some sins of his own, why did this hunter insist on putting the angel on such a high pedestal?
Watch over Dean, of course. Find some sort of peace?
See? This was why Sam Winchester was such a good person.
Castiel frowned further, looking up before there was a flutter of wings and a gust of wind. He appeared in the book store where Sam had left to go explore earlier in the day. Castiel was just in front of him, holding up the letter for Sam to see, the angels name written on the envelope with familiar moose like scrawl.]

[Sam almost drops the books he's holding when the angel reappears in front of him, letting out a quiet, surprised curse as well.] Cas? [Once he's caught his breath, he looks at what Castiel's holding up. It takes a few seconds for him to remember, but then it clicks.]
Oh. [He sets down the books on the shelf next to him, and breathes out.] Guess...you found that?
[Cas never understood why the Winchesters still got surprised when he just appeared in the room. You would think they would be used to it by now. Cas just stared at Sam with those too blue eyes, they were seemingly boring in to his soul.]
Yes. I did.
[He responded looking down at the letter briefly before placing it gently in to the breast pocket of his suit. Castiel then stared up at the much larger hunter again, expression masked. Then he rigidly held out his arms, wide and open toward Sam.
Yeah, Cas was trying to initiate a hug. The very hug Souless!Sam dismissed him of when he first returned.]
[Sam was...actually kinda worried about what the angel's reaction would be. He never thought he'd be around to deal with the aftermath of all that he did. So when he sees Castiel open his arms like that, such a rare gesture from the angel...]
[Oh, Cas. He gives him a bit of a smile as he takes him up in his arm. He did owe him a hug, after all. Though this doesn't feel nearly as awkward as he thought it would be.]
