The first thing he noticed when he woke was the distinctive odor of antiseptic that all hospitals seemed to have. He winced when he opened his eyes and took in the matching sterile environment that didn't do much to ease the worry gnawing at him. He didn't remember why he was here or really, even his own name when he really started to think about it.
It was like waking up with an entirely blank slate... only he was finding it hard to think about it too deeply when his head was throbbing as bad as it was now.
He groaned and rubbed a hand over his face before he slowly sat up, ignoring the wave of dizziness and nausea that washed over him.
Dean's kind of surprised... the guy's surprisingly strong. He's kind of relieved though since he didn't know if he had the strength to pull off that many steps on his own. "That's reassuring," he murmured.
Only guilty of some of them, huh?
He tightened his arm a little more as he saw the car. Oh, that was... familiar. Or something. "That's mine?"
Something in him said that, yeah, it definitely was.
"Yes, it is." Castiel stated, eyes forward and completely oblivious to the fact that Dean was being sarcastic right now. He was far too busy focusing on making his way down the steps, easy and careful with Dean by his side. "You are only guilty of the smaller petty crimes such as arson, and grave robbing. The murder charges are a mistake."
The angel stopped short and lifted his gaze when Dean squeezed him. Castiel then turned his attention to the car which Dean recognized even with his amnesia. Cas smiled his barely there smile, adjusting the hunter on his shoulders before continuing their way down. The car always had a special place in Deans heart. It seems that not even lack of memories would keep them apart. "She is. Do you think you remember how to drive her?"
He wants to say something to all that... but like hell if he knows what. His head is already buzzing too much and it feels like he can't even understand how any of this is real. It's all too unbelievable really... way too fantastic.
When they got closer, he shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe? How'd she get here?" He just hoped he could drive straight, honestly, if he had to.
It was about to get more unbelievable and fantastic. How was Castiel suppose to explain to Dean that he teleported the hunters baby here? He was already having a hard time enough as is. (Sam would be proud of Castiel, he was finally learning tact. If only just.) They finally reached the ground floor and Castiel set Dean down against the car, turning back to push the fire escape ladder up so no one would follow after them. After reaching in to his pocket the angel pulled out a set of keys and held them out to Dean. Hopefully it would be like Dean always said 'like riding a bike' and natural sense would come to the hunter after stepping behind the wheel of his beloved.
"...I had her towed for your arrival." Look at that, Castiel was becoming such a good liar.
"I can try?" He wasn't exactly sure, but he'd prefer that to just standing around while they waited for cops to haul their asses to prison. He shifted his weight a little bit, he took the keys and started trying to pull away to walk on his own.
"I don't know where the hell I'm driving though. Think you can give me directions?"
"It will have to do." After all Castiel had no idea how to drive that thing. Really he should just teleport himself, Dean and the Impala back to the motel but the angel was sure that would only freak the hunter out even more.
Cas hovered back waiting to catch Dean just in case he fell down, but the man looked like he was doing well on his own. With a sigh of relief the angel there was a flutter of wings and Cas was sitting in his usual spot in the passenger seat. Looking over to the hunter on the other side of the door the angel frowned, nodding his head.
He jumped when Cas was suddenly in the passenger seat, giving a confused look to the other man. Maybe his head was still messed up... really messed up. Had to have like a concussion or something.
Shaking is head, he settled in heavily on the driver's seat and fumbled to get the keys in the ignition. "Okay... uh... alright. Do we have pain meds or something at the cabin? My head's killing me."
That's right , Castiel needed to take it easy. Dean wasn't used to Castiels abilities and it would probably freak him out. The angel needed to remind himself to act like a human.
Castiel looked over at Dean, head tilted as he pursed his lips. "I will find some for you." He replied, his voice soft but strong. "Do not worry."
"Find some? Not like they grow on trees." He huffed out a laugh, hands tightening on the wheel a little as he watched the road. God, his head was throbbing as bad as the rest of his body. He just kind of wanted to lay down again, so damn bad.
"So... so how do we know each other? Do we do the crime stuff together or what?"
"I am sure your brother will have some ready." Castiel replied, tilting his head as he looked over to the hunter. Dean seemed in pain, almost like he would lose concentration on the road. The angel frowned , leaning forward and pressed his hand against the hunters temple.
"Here." It was a small portion of his grace to heal some of the pain in Deans forehead. It wasn't much, but enough to make a small difference. To make concentrating easier.
How did they know each other? That... was a complicated question. Castiel sat back in his chair, hands settled in his own lap once more. "We are friends." He answered softly, frowning a bit. "We do not commit crimes. We save people."
The mention of his brother eased his nerves for some reason he couldn't place. "Is he alright? I mean, nothing's wrong with him?"
Didn't know why that was so important, but there was just an itching at the back of his brain that wouldn't leave him alone, no matter what.
Then Cas was touching him again and he was lucky he didn't jerk the wheel or something. The pain was a little better, but--Jesus. "What did you do? What are you?"
And suddenly, he was thinking about demons all over again and shit, why was his life this fucking crazy? Almost glad he didn't remember... except all of it was being shoved at him, it felt like.
"Sam is fine." Castiel assured, settling back on his side of the bunk. "He is awaiting our arrival at the cabin. He was concerned about you." Even with memory failure Dean Winchester would still fret and worry over his little brother. The dedication was admirable.
When questioned the angel returned his gaze to Dean, frowning. "I healed you some. I already told you, I am a friend."
Castiel looked back out the window, watching the trees go by. "You needn't worry. You have described me as one of the 'good guys' in the past. You are safe."
"To tell you the truth, I'm not real sure I'm one of the good guys yet... so you gotta forgive me if I don't believe that entirely yet." He let out a huff, trying to fight with that urge to freak out. He doesn't want to do that here, not now.
"So, where are we going? Do I need to turn or anything?"
"I understand." Castiel murmurs in reply still looking through the window as Dean drives on. Having some one he cares for so having such difficulty is painful. Ethernet angel was having a hard time adjusting to the fax the Dean didn't trust him. That Dean didn't remember everything Cas had done for him and his brother. For what Castiel sacrilaficed. The angel looked down at his hands, looking vulnerable for only a moment before he set his jaw and straightened up in his seat.
"Just know that you can trust me. I would never do anything to hurt you and your brother." Castiel looked up ahead once more and pointed to a dirt road ahead. "We have to go down that road and take a right at the forth. We still have some way to go. The cabin is very far outside of town."
"Alright," he murmured, taking the road and keeping on it. He didn't really know what to believe right now, but he was forcing himself to calm down. He knew panicking wasn't going to help even if that felt like what he wanted to do.
He shifted a little and let out a sigh to try and calm himself. "So, what happened to me exactly? I don't think there's an inch on me that ain't hurting right now."
