[It's the full moon. Which means Poor Sammy is all locked away in the Demon Panic Room, because maybe he won't hurt his family but there's no telling what'll happen if they blink and he manages to make it out the door in record time.
But hell, the guy's still gotta eat. So Abi waits until Bobby's got his back turned before sneaking downstairs with a tray full of...whatever she could find, really. Including a pretty rare steak because...wolves like that stuff, right?
She doesn't enter immediately though, opening the slot to peer inside.] Sam?
I'm not scared of you. [She's sticking her tongue out at you, Sam. Just in case you can't see.
The laughter on her face dies away immediately, but Abi doesn't budge.] I might close my eyes, I might even close the peephole, but I'm staying right on the other side of this door, Sam. I promise.
[Sam's grateful for that. On more than one account. He draws a hitching breath, doubling over. Breathe through it. He has to breathe.] Talk. Just talk. Anything. It helps.
[His skin starts to ripple and shift, his groans of pain barely audible over the crack of shifting and realigning bones.]
[Abi flinches, closing her eyes for a second when she sees the rippling of his skin. It's gross, yes, but seeing Sam in so much pain is worse.
But she's not leaving him.]
You're going to be okay, Sam. I promise. We're going to make it okay. Maybe next month I'll read to you. The Canterbury tales. It's been a long time since I read those, but there's so much better out loud.
I.. I liked those when I was a kid. [He tries to keep talking, but his voice dissolves into a strangled growl of pain as his body remakes and reshapes itself.
Mercifully, it doesn't last long until a giant wolf lay panting in the middle of the floor. The size of a pony with ruddy brown fur, Sam clambers to his feet. He doesn't howl, snarl or make any aggressive noises at the door. Instead he sits down.
Glancing around the room, she notices a length of rope and hopping up, she grabs it. It takes her a couple of minutes, but eventually, she gets it woven pretty thick and long and she moves the table, sitting down at the bottom slot of the door.
Opening it, she sticks the rope halfway in.]
Hey Sammy! [She wiggles the braided rope a little, bracing her feet against the door.] Tug 'o war?
Abi, you are officially his favorite person ever.wolfy_samNovember 6 2012, 04:05:32 UTC
[Sam perks at the movement outside. He can't quite figure out what she's doing, but at least Abi hasn't left.
The wolf backs up, regarding the rope with a curious headtilt as it snakes its way inside the room. Once he hears her, there's a happy, short bark and Sam tosses his head, catching the knotted line in his teeth.]
She has that effect on people.shootsdownstarsNovember 6 2012, 04:14:45 UTC
Whoa. [Okay, so she knew he wasn't a regular dog, but she still wasn't expecting him to be that strong.
But it's cool. Braced against the door, she can use her feet to help pull on her end, shaking the rope. If they get caught, they'll probably never hear the end of this, but it's okay because Sam doesn't have to just sit around all night and Abi doesn't have to spend all night pacing and worrying.]
[This is sort of fun. Sam shaking the rope, and listening to Abi laugh on the other side of the door. They play tug of war for awhile until her arms are tired and he drops down, panting and regarding the door with the closest approximation of a doggy grin.
He gets up and starts pacing around the room, looking for something else to do for awhile. What he wants to do is run. Every instinct screaming to get outside.
There were no books in the room, Bobby had all but cleaned out the room of anything he would have torn up as a wolf. After a few trips around the room, he finally stops back in front of the door. What else can a werewolf and hunter's daughter get into?]
[After they play a little while, Abi's arms are too tired to replace the table, so she stays next to the slot at the bottom of the door, listening to Sam pace. There's not much they can do, not with the door in between them.
Another sweep of the room reveals a tell-tale red bag underneath the desk. Abi had bought the jerky and told Bobby to moderate his intake. That stuff was bad for his heart. When the bag went missing and he feigned innocence, she figured the boys had gotten to it.
Guess not.
Grabbing the bag, she opens it up and sticks one strip in her mouth, slipping the other through the slot.] Hungry, Sam?
[His nostrils flare at the smell and he chuffs, squirming up close to the door. Delicately the wolf opens his mouth and takes the offered jerky from Abi. Sam sets the piece between his paws and tears into it. He's already eaten, but the change makes him fairly ravenous.
Sam rests his muzzle on his forepaws, peering at Abi through the slot.
After a moment, he gets up, snuffling around the clothes he'd laid aside when he locked himself in. He can't get out his phone, but he can at least shove his jeans through the slot. There's an app on his phone with a book he's been reading. If she can figure out what he means.]
[She's looking around to try and find something else for them to do when the phone clatters through the slot.
Well. Maybe he wants her to do something with the phone.
Picking it up, she turns it on and starts looking for something the two of them can do. Music? Nope, dogs don't dance. Words with Friends? Nope, he can't talk. But when does find book app and opens it up to see a book with a page marked, she lays herself out on the floor, head near the slot while she opens the book to the page where he left off.] Oooh, A Song of Ice and Fire. Nice taste, Sam.
[The wolf chuffs, an amused sound as he settles himself down beside the door. He'd picked up the series a few days ago, it was a good read while he was on the road with Dean. Sam gets comfortable while she starts reading.
Maybe before next month he'll get a tablet. One of those bigger readers.
A few chapters into it, Sam yawns hugely, fangs gleaming in the half light. He huffs as his eyes start to droop.]
[Another affirmative huff. Sam flops over onto his side. He's tired. The book was turning into a good read, but if he could grab some sleep, he'd at least wake up human for a few hours until shifting that night.
He noses at the slot, chuffing. He's grateful for the company. And by morning, he'll be able to say it.]
[Unzipping her jacket, Abi folds it up into a pillow beneath her head, closing her eyes. The basement is fairly warm, so she's fine perched on the floor next to the still open slot and she falls asleep there, just on the other side of the door from Sam.]
But hell, the guy's still gotta eat. So Abi waits until Bobby's got his back turned before sneaking downstairs with a tray full of...whatever she could find, really. Including a pretty rare steak because...wolves like that stuff, right?
